Mango is an important fruit in this country. The production of this fruit, which is preferred by everyone big and small, is gradually increasing. I am called the king of fruits in Bangladesh for its taste and popularity. Mango is not comparable to any other fruit due to its nutritional value and multiple uses. Ripe mangoes are rich in high quality carotene or vitamin A and minerals. Mango is generally cultivated in all parts of Bangladesh, but due to its high quality, taste and sophisticated soil and agro-climatic conditions, it is mostly grown in the north-west and south-west of the country. At present in some hilly areas high yielding quality mangoes are being cultivated on commercial basis. Mango has become one of the main sources of income for the people of the area.
According to BBS, 2016, mango is cultivated in 3647 hectares of land in the country, the production of which is about 11.61 lakh metric tons, but according to the Department of Agricultural Extension, Khamarbari, Dhaka, both the area of mango cultivation and production are higher. According to them, mango is cultivated in 1 lakh 64 thousand 206 hectares of land and its production is 21 lakh 43 thousand 403 metric tons. Mango is cultivated in 31,000 hectares of land in Chapainawabganj district with a production of about 3.0 lakh metric tons. From Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, commercial cultivation of mango has been expanded to 23 districts. Mango orchards are growing in new districts as they are more profitable than other crops.
