I looked at the book "Rebirth" in the library, which I had not read before, and I love this author very much.
I honestly admit that this book, after the above collection, seemed to me somewhat gray and drawn out.
A good two-thirds of the work was frankly boring. The author was constantly pulling the rubber, it was difficult to read, my attention was constantly scattered and went somewhere far away on the topics "what to cook for dinner" or "how will tomorrow be at work".
A lot of attention was paid to boring (for me personally) descriptions of everyday life and the worries of show business, which I did not try to understand. I understand that this is a big part of the main character's life, but it's still not interesting. The names of bands, concerts, albums-I was constantly yawning indecently. Well, not mine!
I will also add to this the details of manipulations and experiments with electricity - again, past all the strings of my soul. I'm more of a humanitarian than a tech guy. That's why everything in the book irritated me more than it fascinated me.
It's rare when I stop reading halfway, but here I really wanted to do it. My natural curiosity still overcame me and I read to the end. Towards the end, there was an intrigue, I had a chance to reach the end with great pleasure. I was quite satisfied with the final, I can even say I liked it.
It wasn't scary. At the beginning, I was impressed by the moment with the accident. But it can't be otherwise. The death of young people and children cannot but touch. Especially when this is followed by the suffering and actions of loving people. What is that, and King can describe it very sentimentally, in all his colors, accessible only to him.
But after that, it's already boring, dull and drawn out. Only at the end there is some dynamism and animation.
The plot, in general, is clear. But I still have a couple of questions, the answers to which I have not found. Well, I came up with my own brains and figured out how I could. The writer, in my opinion, has unnecessarily paid attention to secondary points, often missing the main thing. Or maybe I just missed something myself - it's hard to read when attention goes in the wrong direction.
For example, why did the "master" need to look where he himself was soon to get (he could not not know, he could not feel it). My answer is to challenge Faith and the Creator (if there is one). And why he didn't heal himself, although he clearly needed it recently.
My answer: I was afraid of side effects, although I constantly denied the possibility of them in relation to others. Often, in achieving "global" goals, "material" becomes ordinary, unnecessary garbage. So people became it.
To some extent, I felt sorry for the hero who ruined (literally and figuratively) his whole life for some inventions that brought nothing but destruction. It can be assumed that he simply could not recover from a big loss, but no. He started much earlier than these events.
Despite my not very great interest in this work, I still caught the main idea. And I quite agree with the author. You don't have to stick your nose where you shouldn't and try to outwit God. It is not given to us to find out until the very hour of X, no matter how you turn it.
And the consequences of our unceremonious and persistent attempts can be the most deplorable. Not only the instigator will suffer, but also completely innocent people. Although, of course, in the face of a serious illness, disability, it is difficult to maintain your humility and refrain from trying all the ways to return to a full life. Especially when this "miracle" is happening with the name of God on your lips.
The book "Rebirth" - by Stephen King, as you understand, I did not really like it. I didn't touch it somehow and wasn't particularly interested. But the taste and color, as you know... Therefore, I will recommend it for reading.

Вот почему то Кинг мне не сильно зашел. Хотя, Темная Башня довольно интересна
На вкус и цвет... фломастеры разные))
Несколько произведений Кинга мне пришлись по душе, но в основном тяжёлое чтиво...
На любителя)
Good reading!
Thanks!
