Why You Are The Way You Are

Why You Are The Way You Are

"you are the way you are because that's the way you want to be. If you really wanted to be any different, you would be in the process of changing right now."

We define our personalities and identities by judging our own actions. Everyone is a victim of habits he has consciously cultivated.

"All is habit in mankind, even virtue itself," beginning with a single act, habit is formed slowly at first and it is not till it's spider's thread is woven into thick cable that it's existence is suspected"4l

-- Metastasio.

Your lifestyle is governed by your habits. You cannot be separated from what you repeatedly do. Your habit is you. Habit once formed becomes second nature. This also dictates the results or experiences in your life. Until you change something you are doing, you never alter the result you obtain. If the tree is known by its fruit, then it holds true that the fruits is also a direct reflection of the seed sown.

There are no accidents in life. Whatever consequences you have today is a by-product of seed that have been sown yesterday in thoughts, actions, etc. The blame must not be imputed on another. Only by self-evaluation can you establish what you stand for, and these values become the basis for Success or failure in any life.

At the root of habit is thought. Whatever dominates your mind will eventually dominate your life. Your expressed behavioural pattern is a reflection of the constant photography on your mind. Your thoughts are the primary causes of the conditions of your world.

If it is true we become what we think, then I agree with David J. Schwartz

"The mind is what the mind is fed. Our mind's food determines our habits, attitudes and our personalities."

Mind's food that determines our habits and thus our personalities will include: environmental and parental influences, things we learnt while growing up, etc., contribute to our mindset and helps to condition our responses and our beliefs. Many grown adults are still been pursued by childhood fantasies. All these greatly add to your personality trait, and unless consciously broken, they will inform and greatly influence your destiny.

Societal influence cannot be overlooked. What we see and hear inform our belief system. What you believe you will perform. The mind remains the battlefield where we fight our fiercest battle. Victories are won or lost in our mind.

The good news is that, your personality, character traits are subject to change, habits can be broken.

"A bad habit never goes away by itself, it always an undo-it-yourself-project"

-- Abigail Van Buren

The best way through which bad habits may be removed is to form new ones to counteract and replace the undesirable ones. Nature abhors vacuum. Old habits soon return if not replaced.

"Habits, if wisely and skillfully formed, becomes truely a second nature."

-- Bacon
