Digital asset funds see biggest weekly outflow since March

Digital asset funds experienced the largest weekly outflow since March, with $600 million leaving the market by June 14, according to CoinShares. Bitcoin investment vehicles were hit hardest, accounting for $621 million in outflows, while short Bitcoin funds saw $1.8 million in inflows.

The CoinShares “Weekly Asset Fund Flows” report attributes this to a more hawkish outlook from the Federal Reserve, maintaining high interest rates, which led to the exodus from fixed-supply assets like Bitcoin.
Altcoins, however, showed resilience. Ether investment vehicles saw $13.2 million in inflows, LIDO had $2 million, and XRP received $1.1 million. Other altcoins such as BNB, Litecoin, Cardano, and Chainlink also experienced small inflows.

Despite these positive movements for altcoins, the overall digital asset under management dropped from $100 billion to $94 billion within the week. This highlights that the inflows into altcoins couldn't offset the significant outflows from Bitcoin investments.

Institutional adoption remains in its early stages. Bitcoin ETFs, which amassed between $60 billion and $70 billion, are still minor compared to traditional financial institutions like JPMorgan, which saw $489 billion in inflows in 2023. Experts predict a second wave of institutional investment in digital assets in the future.
