Japan's Penis Festival is one of the country's funniest event that attracts people from all corners of the world. The festival is based on the male and female reproductive organs. This festival is held around April in Kanayama shrine in Kawasaki. The Penis been the main ideal here, you can see in different shapes, decorated and in different colors of all sizes and also a mikoshi (transportable shrine) parade.
The origin of the festival or the story behind it was that a demon possessed a lady and couldn't allow her fall in love with another man, so the demon hide in her vagina so as to bite of any penis of anyone she comes in contact with. This kept going on with her, then she consulted the help of a local smith man, and a steel penis was made for her. So I assume she used it, unknown to the demon on wanting to bite it off, lost his teeths and that was the end of the demon.
In our present day, this festival is been celebrated to promote safe sex and also STD (sexually transmitted diseases)
In this festival, there's always lots sex ornaments been sold, customized penis t-shirts, and of course lots of food too.
Men and women putting on funny sexual stuffs, different latex outfits and also some sucking penis shaped lollipops.
The iron penis are the main thing as they are carried into the shrine, and a priest offers prayers and everybody follows. ( for fertility and marital harmony).
