Joseph Désiré Court made this painting in 1827. This art was referenced to the great deluge in the book of Genesis. The Biblical book tells us about how God Almighty flooded the earth as the form of punishment to the people of earth for being disobedient. Only Prophet Noah and his family survived As He was pre-instructed to build an Ark to convey his people. The rest of the people who didn’t heed to Noah’s warnings perished in the Deluge.

This painting shows a different scene of the deluge where Joseph Désiré Court tells a story of a man. This Man Had to choose between saving his father or his wife and son. As you see can clearly see in the painting the Man snubs his wife and son who appear to be much closer to him and decides to save his father who’s a bit far and despite the man’s efforts to save him he’s slipped out of his grasp.

This painting is a parable about holding on to the past such that you’re not open to the present and the future. The father represents the past, the wife represents the present and the kid represents the future of the man.

Life Lessons: If you always hold on or live in the past, you might miss out on the opportunities the future might reveal. Forget past Traumas, focus on the present  so you will be able to access what the futures will unveil.
