*TOPIC: THE FAMILY: GOD ORDAINED INSTITUTION*

📖 *TODAY'S TEXT:* 

Genesis 2;18-25: Deuteronomy 11: 18-20; Ephesian 5:21

🔑 *KEY VERSE:* 

"Therefore shall man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh" (Genesis 2:24)

🖊️ *COMMENTARY*

The family is a God-Ordained institution. Today, there are different challenges facing the family as compared to past centuries. With all of these challenges, the Christian family have great blessings; the scripture, an essential guide for having a successful marriage.

Our families should be bounded by exercising deep value for each other. The Apostle Paul in Ephesian 5:21, admonished the christian spouses to Submit one to another, wives to submit to their husbands as unto the Lord. Submission here means each spouse is willing to serve the other, rather than exalt self. Submission is based on Gods structure for marriage. He made the husband head over the woman as Christ is head over the church (Verse 23). This speaks to the husbands responsibility as a spiritual leader, protector and provider. However, the wife's submission does not mean inferiority. Therefore the principle of mutual submission comes in here. The husband as the head is enjoined to love his wife and this must be selfless. He is to be concerned with her needs and well-being. When the Husband and wife obey this requirements enshrined in the Scripture they are set to have a successful

home.

However, Christian parents are also charged with a sacred responsibility of teaching scriptural commands vital to Christian living. It involves knowing the word and diligently conveying it to their children regularly. Such

responsibility must not be taken lightly. The lsraelites were commanded to teach God's word to their children and convey God's truth; Tie them as symbols, talk to them in the morning and evening, bind them on their foreheads, teach them when they sit, walk, lie down, get up, write them on the door frames of their houses and gates. Parents are encouraged to convey the word of God to their children continually through speech and example.
