🖊️ COMMENTARY

When we evaluate ourselves in relation to our attitudes and responses to God's dealings with us over time, we often see we failed woefully. That was exactly the experience of Balaam in our text for the day. Man is by nature selfish but Christ opens up. Man is limited but the Almighty is altogether unlimited. One of the elementary facts about God every elect must be at home with is, "God means well for all his children". He has all the means to accomplish it. Most of us are not patient enough to see that come through.

Our text is a familiar passage and the lesson is universal and timeless. God created everything for His use and everything obeys Him. He can use any as instrument of blessing or judgement. When we do not hear as He is speaking, He can reach to us through revelations but when we still ignore all these communication gamut, we may only hurt ourselves as Balaam did. Do not be naive on your environment, God uses the total environment to express His mind. The abnormal behavior of the donkey should have been noticed. It can equally be your vehicles, wife, children, office boss, subordinates, total stranger, or anything else.

God often wants to slow us down for our good, as the test hinted. Also in Matthew, God spoke to Joseph to take the child, Jesus with the mother to Egypt until He authorizes the back trip. Joseph obeyed without argument.

Nobody can realize his full potential in the Lord without imbibing the discipline of obedience. When Balaam realized it was God that was stopping the journey, he came before God in repentance and confession. The Lord forgave him and released further opportunities. Every repentance brings new opportunities. Has God been opposing that move of yours for a rethink, a turn around, a change of direction or

stoppage? Look well before you leap. God will surely have a reason for trying to stop you.
