TOPIC: FELLOWSHIP WITH JESUS

🖊️ COMMENTARY

Relationship is said to be connection or association between two or more people. There is relationship between business partners, colleagues in office or class mates in school. In relationship individuals involved may not be more than mere acquaintances but in fellowship they develop a deeper relationship; they become companions or friends, sharing thoughts and feelings. This breeds intimacy which connotes closeness, familiarity or rapport.

In 1Cor. 1:9, Paul wrote that God called us into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ. He wants us to have a deeper relationship with Christ to the extent that we become friends and see ourselves as part of Him.

The degree of a man's divine blessings, to a large extent, depends on the level of his fellowship with God. E.W. Keyon has observed that a larger percentage of those who have accepted Christ and joined the Church are not succeeding. These have known God as their Creator but have not come to relate with Him as their father. Jesus is their Lord and Saviour but not seen as their friend and elder brother. They only have relationship with Jesus but are not in fellowship with Him. This, to Keyon, is why many Christians are not succeeding.

David was in love with God. For him, "One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and enquire in his temple (Ps 27:7). No wonder God saw him as a man after His own heart (Acts 13:22). It was such a sweet fellowship between God and David that the later always craved to be in God's presence. How intimate are you with God? Are you in fellowship with him like David or are you just in relationship with Him?

It is fellowship with Christ that determines the degree of power and aura of glory a child of God carries; the degree of favour one enjoys before God and man: and the bedrock of divine defense and protection (Ps 91:14, 15). But when fellowship with the Lord is broken, and the Spirit of grace is grieved, the child of God becomes a prey to the enemy for he that breaks the hedge (wall of protection) exposes himself to serpent's bite (Eccl 10:8).

Are you in fellowship with Christ or are you in mere relationship with Him. Are you walking with the Lord or are you working for Him? Is Jesus your master, Lord and Saviour or also your father, friend and elder brother? It is Sincere answer to these questions that have kept you where you are in your walk with Christ and will determine your next level of faith.
