*TOPIC: ADVERSITIES FOR ADVANCEMENT*

📖 *TODAY'S TEXT:*
Hebrews 13:3
Proverbs 17:17

🔑 *KEY VERSE:*
"If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small" (Proverbs 24:10).

🖊️ *COMMENTARY*
This verse speaks of the importance of perseverance in difficult times. We are to be strong and resolute in the face of adversity because if we give up or lose heart when faced with challenges or difficulties, then our strength is limited and insuficient. This verse is particularly relevant in our modern Nigeria, where we are constantly faced with adversities such as terrorism, ASUU strike, political brigandage, bad road menace, inflation hitting hard on essential commodities such as foodstuffs and petroleum products, false preachers and gospel merchandisers, high rate of divorce, suicide, drug abuse, blackmail, child abuse, reprobate behavior, land grabbing, corruption, unsubscribed immorality in the new media, values deracination, betrayal, unemployment, poverty, education standard decline, domestic violence, tribalism, nepotism among others.

Whether it be personal struggles, family challenges, community problems, or global crises, adversity is a common experience for all people. By all means, God wants us to keep advancing and not retrogress in the face of adversity. Some adversities are endemic in nature and cannot be annihilated as some zealots erroneously assume. Jesus told us in Jn 16:33, in the world ye shall have tribulation.." We are to courageously live and deal with it and not shy away from it. Hence, the saying, "He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day."

Conclusively, we are to understand that our response to adversity is
crucial. Instead of giving up or losing hope, we are called to be persistent and persevere through the trials. We must rely on the strength of God and draw from the well of His grace to endure and overcome. This may not be popular but it is important that we build strength and resilience before adversity strikes. We cannot face trials and come out victoriously if we have not developed a strong foundation of faith, character and wisdom, Therefore, we must continually invest in our spiritual growth and personal development, so that we are equipped to face whatever lies ahead.
