TOPIC: NOTHING IS FOREVER ON EARTH
📖 TODAY'S TEXT:
Ecclesiastes 3:1-12

🖊️ COMMENTARY
Who does not know the name of the legendary Pele, the Brazilian goal scoring maestro who won the cup in 1958, 1962 and 1970? For so many years, Pele name was synonymous with football itself. He was Considered as the greatest of the great. Nothing happening in football on the global scale was complete without the living legend being there. Even when later day superstars like Diego Armando Maradonna, Christiano Ronaldo and Leonel Messi appeared on the scene, Pele's fame and celebrity status was not eclipsed.
But in 2020, at the cusp of clocking 80 years of age, Pele's health failed him to the point that he refused to leave his home and be seen in public. Here are the words of Pele's son, Edison who was quoted by BBC Sport:."He is very sheepish, reclusive. He's embarrassed, he doesn't want to go out, be seen or do practically anything that involves leaving the house. He is pretty fragile. So he has problem with mobility and that has set off a kind of depression." How sad for a man who made his fame feasting on public accolade.
True to the words of the wise teacher in the Bible who said, "for riches are not forever: and doth the crown endure to every generation ?" (Prov. 27:24). Nothing really lasts forever on this temporary plane called earth except the life we have in Christ. Fame, power, money and all the other things people labour themselves to death for have nothing but transient duration. What we have left, as Eccl. 3:12, is to be happy and to do good deeds in this life.
