*TOPIC: SERVICE, ANTIDOTE TO PRIDE*

📖 *TODAY'S TEXT:* 

John 13:1-15

🔑 *KEY VERSE:* 

"... Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility.." (1 Peter 5:5)

🖊️ *COMMENTARY*

Pride is the most subtle of sins. It deeply entrenches itself that we are unable to discern its presence and the damage it does to our spiritual life, personality and conducts. If we are generous, we cannot help feeling proud about it. If we help someone, we pat ourselves on the back. We can even be proud that we are conquering pride!

Pride is the only reason a person cannot get to God, because such

person would not humbly accept His condition for access, and God is always opposed to the proud- James 4:6. Peter, therefore gave the cure when he told us to be "clothed with humility." This means we are to put on the servant's apron. We should want to serve. Our Lord Jesus Christ exemplified this attitude when He adorned Himself with a towel and washed the disciple's feet- Jn. 13. Our life of Christian service is where we demonstrate our loyalty to Him and fulfill our spiritual destiny.

God intended that the Christian life should be dynamic, not static. The Holy Spirit has given us spiritual gifts, but those gifts are worthless unless they are put to use in the service of God and His Church. To maintain strength, health, and vitality, every member must function and serve all the other members of the body. Our Lord showed us what it means to be clothed with humility"...when knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands... laid aside His garment and took a towel...and began to wash the disciples' feet" John 13:1-5. That act pleased the Father, and He was exalted by the Father - Phil. 2:9. Humility and service are the true gifts and responses of our repentance and the real meaning of it.

🎚 *CONTROLLING THOUGHTS* 

Pride dethroned the Devil from the exalted place in the presence of God and still demote many. Therefore, keep yourself away from it.

🙏🏿 *PRAYER* 

Thank you, Lord, that You did not simply tell us to serve. You showed us how by doing it by the spirit of servanthood. May I follow Your example. Amen.
