*TOPIC: THE ASSET CALLED CHILDREN*

📖 *TODAY'S TEXT:*
Psalm 127: 3 -5; Hebrews 11:23; 2-29.

🔑 *KEY VERSE:*
"Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward' (Psalm 127:5).

🖊️ *COMMENTARY*
The Bible says that children are an heritage of the Lord. The Hebrew interpretation of the word heritage indicates inheritance as in patrimony. It means God calls us to inherit as one of the blessings from Him to us. Another term used to describe the children is 'reward'. It carries the idea of wages or benefits; they are given as benefits of the marriage union. The scriptures also liken them to weapons and described them as defenders of our gates and territory. The above descriptions allude to the fact that God sees the children He has given to us as great assets.

Here are some things we must know about the children God has given to us. As weapons, they are only effective when it is in the hands of a skilled warrior. so does it take skillful parents to turn their children into great weapons. Every child is born foolish (Prov.22:15) and needs special attention to drive away the foolishness. Parents are the primary visual aid of the children. Therefore, parents must be models to their children. Children thrive in an atmosphere of love, freedom, acceptability, appreciation, and care.

The parents of Moses saw him as a goodly child and a tomorrow's prospect and so choose to defy the king's order, refusing to surrender him to be killed, as other parents did for fear of the king's anger. What you see in your child determines the extent you will go to nurture and bring out the best in him. The child is an asset in its raw form and must be skillfully handled to actualize his potential. It was on the news headlines in Nigeria that a teenage boy killed his father for beating his mother. The child that was supposed to be a weapon in the hands of his parents against the enemies may also become the weapon in the hands of the enemies against his parents. Live peaceably and don't bring your children into your quarrels.
