TOPIC: OH LORD, I NEED A SECOND CHANCE

📖 *TODAY'S TEXT:*

Judges 16:21, 28-30

"Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit (Psalm 51:12, NKJV).

🖊️ COMMENTARY

Our devotional today is centred on Samson's fall and his prayer for restoration: "O Lord GOD, remember me, l pray! Strengthen me, I pray, just this once, O God,..."(v. 28).

We are familiar with the saying: "the downfall of a man is never the end of his life." Many of us make mistakes. Believers are not sinless, but we genuinely try to avoid sin and resist the devil. Prophet Micah declares. "Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; when I fall, I will arise..." (Micah 7:8).

Samson was filled with the Holy Spirit from his mother's womb. Called of God to judge Israel, and endued wonderfully with the Holy Spirit. His birth was announced by an angel (Judges 13:1-21). He was a Nazarite according to the order of Numbers 6. Samson constantly defiled his Nazarite separation through fleshly appetites or cravings, because he lacked good character and self-control. He was a womanizer. His relationship with Delilah led to his downfall (Judges 16:4-21). He was captured by the Philistine rulers who put out his eyes, shaved his head and he became a grinder in the prison (v. 21). Samson strangled a lion with bare hands but could not strangle his lust. "How the mighty have fallen!" (2 Sam. 1:19). However, "the hair of his head began to grow again after it had been shaven" (v. 22). Dry bones shall rise again. The Bible says Samson called to the LORD, in prayer, "O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray! Strengthen me, I pray, just this once, O God, that I may with one blow take vengeance on the Philistines for my two eyes!" (v. 28). God answered. He had a second chance. At his death, "he killed more than he had killed in his life" (v. 30). You shall not die with your enemies. God's mercies and forgiveness are available.
