🖊️ COMMENTARY

One of the challenges that rocked the Church at Corinth was identity crises. The brethren there seemed not to really understand the difference between the old life they had outside Christ and their new life in Christ. They mixed up a lot of issues and got themselves involved in several behaviours, which ran contrary to the new life in Christ. What a pain that caused Apostle Paul, the human vessel God used to bring them to Himself. Thanks be to God that Paul never gave up on them. Rather, he kept on addressing the issues one after another, helping them to understand who they really were and how they ought to live. Unfortunately, those issues Paul addressed among them are with us today.

Our text today makes it plain to us, just as it did to the Corinthian Brethren, that the new life we have in Christ forbids us from living under the influence of fleshly desires. We should not covet and live for the things of this life: wrong thoughts, wrong words, bad deeds, etc., which the Bible refers to as "carnal."

The life we have in Christ lifts us far above the level of human communications and all forms of carnal behaviours. Having been raised from our trespasses and sins, and now seated together in the heavenly places through Christ, the ways of the world have ceased to be our ways.

We're now God's own workmanship created in Christ Jesus for GOOD

WORKS. As such, envy, strife, and other carnal behaviours must become strange to us. For we've been born of the Spirit and we walk by the Spirit and not of the flesh.
