 *WHITED SEPULCHRES* 

 *Text: “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness  ” Matthew23:27* 

I’m sure you are familiar with what is called a “whited sepulchre”. This is simply talking about a tomb that is well decorated and painted white. No matter how beautiful and costly the tomb is what you have inside are mere useless bones that does not worth anything. The outward appearance does not tally with the inward state.

This is also a description of a hypocritical life. We appear to be good and nice to everybody but within we are rotten. The true state of a man is not what he appears to be outwardly, but what he looks like within.

We must also understand that God’s evaluation of our lives is not a function of who we are outwardly, but who we are within. Men see the outward appearance but God is looking at the inward disposition. 

Verse 28 of the same chapter says “Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity”.  There are issues in our lives that are not boldly written on our faces, but boldly stamped on our souls. The message bible version of verse 28 says “people look at you and think you’re saints, but beneath the skin you’re total frauds”.

The highest form of character is when what we are outwardly is exactly who we are inwardly. Pride makes us rotten within. Selfishness within is a soul corrupted. Holding on to grudges and malice is a wrong state to place our spirit. It doesn’t matter what you portray outwardly, the wrong inward state corrupts it. Please check your life.

In the name of Jesus I receive a purging within by the blood of Jesus. I am purged of dead works.
