📖 *TODAY'S TEXT:*
Psalm 103:8-14;
Lamentation 3:22-26

🔑 *KEY VERSE:*
",... His mercies begin afresh each day" Lam.3:23 (NLT).

🖊️ *COMMENTARY*
If you were shown mercy by a person the previous day for an offense you committed or were given a favour you never merited but of mercy, would you be expecting another fresh mercy by the next morning? This sounds impossible with man, but not with God. This kind of mercy transcends this terrestrial realm. It is boundless, "... reaches unto the heaven' (Psalm 57:10), it is inexhaustible and is refreshed daily. The believer is called to obtain mercy (1 Pet.1:10). This mercy is the basis of God's dealing with His children and not merit.

God's mercy is the product of His faithfulness and benevolence. We can rely on His unfailing compassion because of His mercy, for He always pities us. His mercy exempts us from destruction (Mal. 3:6). In His anger, God often does not forget His mercy. All His dealings with us are based on His mercy as exemplified by our Lord Jesus in His earthly ministry. When He saw hungry people, He had compassion on them and gave them food (Matt. 15:32). Whenever He met sick people, He had mercy on them and healed them. When He met the widow of Nain, He had mercy on her and raised her only son back to life (Luke 7:13).

God's mercy does not mean He will not judge sin. God's mercy is the provision He has made for our escape from His wrath. To enjoy God's mercy therefore we must embrace His pardon and make Him our all in all.

God's mercy is available to those who seek Him and put their hope in Him. While God is merciful, He does not give His mercy to those who do not recognize and ask for it as witnessed on the cross between the two robbers that were crucified with Jesus. One recognized, asked for mercy, and was not denied it, while the other never recognized nor asked and was damned.
