🖊️ *COMMENTARY* 

Life is full of tragedy and adversities. Here is the painful story of a common tragedy that struck three women who lost their husbands in the land of Moab. Naomi, Ruth and Orpah.

Naomi, who was Jewish, decided to return home at a time when God visited her people to end the plague of hunger and her two daughters- In-law who were Moabites showed interest in coming back with her. However, after seeing Naomi's despair, Orpah gave up the idea and decided to stay in her native country given the obvious, while Ruth took the risk of following her mother-in-law where she wasn't sure of

something good. As a reward for her faith in God of Israel and her

dedication to her mother-in-law, Ruth married Boaz, gave birth to Obed, the father of David, and gained an enviable place in the genealogy of Jesus Christ (Matt 1: 5-6).

Ruth's tenacious determination to follow Naomi in the face of very

discouraging circumstances deserves to be emulated. She had no hope of finding another husband because the Israelites had no right to have relationships with the Moabites (Deut. 23: 3). This particular reason led Orpah to decline her decision to follow Naomi. Some

people may have advised Ruth to be reasonable and reject the idea, but she didn't move, even though it wasn't nice anyway. Ruth's steadfast determination to follow Naomi is similar to the steadfast loyalty and faith that a future follower or worker of Christ should manifest, even in the face of discouraging facts. The same is expected of a lady whose pretending does not seem to have the perspective of success in life, but he is God's perfect will for her.

God's gifts are sometimes, if not usually, packed in low-attractive

packages, while Satan's are very colorful on the outside but contain

poison inside. This calls for total dedication, selfless prayers and

faith in God to make such unpopular decisions in life at the end of which there will be much to celebrate.
