TOPIC: THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

🖊️ COMMENTARY
Today is Pentecost Sunday, a day in Christendom to mark the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Disciples of Christ, as recorded in Acts 2, in fulfillment of the promise of God, particularly, Joel 2:28 John the Baptist and Jesus Himself had prophesied about this before His passion, resurrection and ascension. The contemporary experience of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit after those of the Acts of the Apostles took place the opening years of the 20th century and became known as Pentecostal Movement which birthed churches such as Assemblies of God. Four Square, Apostolic Faith, Apostolic Church, etc. The numerous Pentecostal churches today owe their origins in one way or another to these pioneer Pentecostal churches. Pentecostal churches are churches which are empowered by the Holy Spirit for missions, evangelism, effective worship and edification of the Body of Christ.
The church is powerless without the Holy Spirit, hence the Lord Jesus repeatedly associated Him with power (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:8). From the old Testament times, the Holy Spirit was the power that enabled artisans, judges, kings, prophets, and musicians to function optimally in their various callings. This is the greatest power in the whole universe which enabled Jesus Christ and His disciples to perform miracles, signs and Wonders in the New Testament (Luke 4:18; Acts 10:38). The church/Christian is dead without the Holy Spirit (James 2:26). The Holy Spirit in the Christian brings about godly character through the fruit (Gal 5:22) and power through the gifts (1 Cor 12:1-11). He functions as Advocate, Comforter and Teacher in the believer.
Our text tells us that God's kingdom is not in word but in power. This powers from the Holy Spirit and makes God's kingdom to triumph over the kingdom of Satan. Thus, through the Holy Spirit, the believer receives the power to live above sin, rule over Satan and demons, rule over circumstances, heal diseases, perform miracles, preach with unction, pray effectively and live godly. The Holy Spirit is the Electricity of God (Dunamis) that empowers believers to perform Supernatural acts, as Dynamo (the Spiritual energy that does good works) and (he Spiritual energy that destroys what is bad). This experience is for all believers in Christ and is received by faith, with initial evidence of speaking in tongues (Acts 2). With this, you don't need any occultism to succeed in any walk of life.
