TOPIC: THE AUTHORITY OF GOD'S WORD

Minister Kevan Bartlett writes, "The timeless Word of God is the supreme authority for all humanity. Whether recognized as such or not, the fact remains that God has given mankind absolute truth in the Bible. Certainly, believers should recognize, respect, and regard the authority of the Holy Scriptures."

But Rev. Scott Rennie of the Church of Scotland, who openly lives a homosexual lifestyle, recently claimed in an interview with the BBC that the Bible is not always the authority that people must follow, adding that the bible should not be the final word on sexual ethics and should be reinterpreted in the light of contemporary thinking. This "reverend" argued that the Bible must yield to contemporary thinking because of what society has learned, "through psychology, through science, and we've got to read Scripture in that light."

Some will dismiss Rev. Rennie with a wave of the hand but the reality we have today is that the world is increasingly leaning towards the position which the Bible itself described as the "falling away" in 2 Thessalonians 2:3. Billions of humans from Russia to China to Europe to the United States and even Africa believe that the bible can no longer provide proper answers to modern questions. These are the people who write the textbooks our children read in schools and they do so with a mind to influence people to think unbiblically.

As Christians, we must be clear in our minds about what is the final testament of authority in our lives - is it science or the Bible? We must know that if the authority of the bible is in any way reduced, our faith becomes compromised. The bible is not only always current but correct without any error whatsoever. Read your BIBLE daily.
