CONNECTION BETWEEN SELF ACCEPTANCE AND SELF EXPRESSION.
It took me quite a while to realise that there's very close connection between accepting myself as human being and levels of freedom in my creativity and self expression.
You probably know those fearful moments too. You'd love to do something, you really do, but you don't do it because you doubt you have enough talents, skills, knowledge... You don't have time. Your mind comes up with plethora of excuses that take you away from making another step towards your dreams.
Self sabotage originates in lack of self belief, fear of rejection, being labelled weird, not useful to family, society, emotionally and mentally thrown beyond the margins occupied by outdated structures that people are so attached to they will protect their boundaries as that was their life they are protecting.
And in a sense it is. They protect what they know as their life, as ideology so ingrained in their minds that it became part of their personality.
It's hard to let go of your personality. Each of us knows this.
Coming back to self acceptance and creating.
When we feel that being ourselves; expressing what we feel, doing things we love, isn't safe and we'll meet resistance, it's tricky to be authentic, therefore being able to access and sustain depths of our creative potential.
There's deeply seeded fear inside our mind.
What if what I create won't be good enough?
What if it won't be as good as this or that person's creation?
What if despite my best efforts I'll once again come short and feel disappointed.
All these doubts!
Each of these result self criticism, judgment, shame, perfectionism.
There's no joy anymore in creative process!
How can we change this though?
What can we do to trust in our talents?
How can we overcome self sabotage?
One of the ways that has worked for me is self inquiry and journaling.
It's about asking myself questions during my creative process, observing my inner dialogue, listen to my inner critic and fears that arise.
It's about getting curious of what my mind sees as threat when I am truly myself and share my talents authentically.
Stay tuned for more practical tools for realising self judgment and accepting the gift you are.
