Fluminense's victory in the Copa Libertadores final ensures it a permanent place in the tournament that will be held for the first time in the summer of 2025 in the United States.
The 2025 club super-World Cup is taking shape little by little. Fluminense 's victory in the 2023 Libertadores final against Boca Juniors certifies the Brazilian team in the first 32-team club World Cup that FIFA will organize on US soil in the summer of 2025.
Fluminense occupies the third place that FIFA gives to the four winners of the Copa Libertadores in the period 2021-2024. After Palmeiras (2021); Flamengo (2022) and now Fluminense, there is one place left for the winner of the next edition. With the presence of the Brazilian champion, there are now 13 teams that have a fixed place for the super-World Cup.
On the European side, the three winning teams of the last Champions League have already qualified: Chelsea (2021); Real Madrid (2022) and Manchester City (2023) . The 2024 Champions League champion and the top eight in the UEFA ranking from the last four years (2021-2024) are missing, but always with the limit of two clubs per country. As of today, via ranking, no English club could no longer be there unless it wins this season's Champions League.
The rest of the clubs already certain to play the first tournament in the United States are: Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia); Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan); Al Ahly (Egypt); Wydad Casablanca (Morocco); Monterrey Mexico); Seattle Sounders (USA) and León (Mexico).
The triumph of Marcelo's Fuminense also defines the final draw of the 2023 Club World Cup that will be played between December 12 and 22 in Saudi lands.
Fluminense will debut the winner of two rounds in the semifinals on December 18. The winner of Al Ittihad-Auckland City (December 12) will face Egyptian Al Ahly (December 15 ). And in turn, whoever wins this tie will be the rival of those from Diniz to advance to the grand final.
On the other side of the draw, Manchester City will face the winner of the match between León de México and Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan) in the semifinals.
