On the fourth day of competitions for the CONMEBOL Copa America 2024, the USA and Uruguay won their respective debuts.
Uruguay defeated Panama 3-1 in its debut at the Copa America.
With goals by Maximiliano Araújo, Darwin Núñez and Matías Viña, Uruguay beat Panama 3-1 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami in the first date of Group C of the CONMEBOL Copa América.
The team coached by Marcelo Bielsa had a frenetic start to the match, playing at a very intense pace and generating a large number of chances to score. In the first minute, Giorgian De Arrascaeta came close to scoring with a shot from outside the area that went just wide, and in the 5th minute, Núñez tried to score with a shot that was just blocked. A couple of minutes later, a cross by Nández caused a bad clearance by Fariña that almost went against him, and at 11' Darwin Núñez fell in the rival area claiming a penalty from the goalkeeper, which was not sanctioned.
At 15' came the goal that opened the scoring, with a phenomenal shot from outside the area by Maximiliano Araújo that went into the corner and unleashed the madness of the sky-blue crowd in Miami. Far from slowing down the pace, at 17' Darwin Núñez came close to increasing the difference with a powerful shot that the goalkeeper kept out at two times, and at 19' it was Giorgian De Arrascaeta who had the chance with a great header that the goalkeeper blocked.
Little by little, Uruguay's intensity decreased, but at 28', they got to the end again with a great cross by Valverde that Darwin Núñez connected with a first-time shot, but Mosquera made a spectacular save. Before the end of the first half, Panama had its first clear approach with a shot by Fajardo that demanded Rochet.
In the second half, the Celeste could not repeat all the good things they had done in the first half, and the Canaleros showed their best version. Fajardo first with a powerful shot that went wide, and José Luis Rodríguez with a dangerous shot that Rochet kept out, came close to giving the Central American team the equalizer. Uruguay had a warning in the 71' with a deflected shot by Nicolás De La Cruz, but only managed to finish it off at the end, with a very good definition by Darwin Núñez to make it 2-0, and shortly after with a lethal header by Matías Viña to make it 3-0.
In stoppage time, Murillo's great cross-shot into the corner of the net made it 3-1 to end the match and mark the triumphant debut of Bielsa's Celeste.
Pulisic leads U.S. to triumphant Copa America debut against Bolivia.
The United States made its Copa America 2024 debut with a 2-0 win over Bolivia at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Milan's Christian Pulisic opened the scoring with a stunning goal three minutes into the match, the fastest goal of the tournament so far, and also set up Folarin Balogun for the second goal in the 44th minute.
The North American team made the home side feel at home from the first seconds of the match and it took just three minutes for Tim Weah, their captain, to score the first, with a shot to the right side that brushed past the hand of Bolivian goalkeeper Guillermo Viscarra.
Brazilian coach Antonio Carlos Zago's side struggled to hold and steal the ball and hardly came close to the U.S. goal.
Balogun had at least two chances to score, first in the 36th minute, but failed to reach Weah's cross and two minutes later, when he tried a shot that was soft enough to die in the hands of the La Verde keeper.
The Ligue 1 Monaco striker was able to get on the scoresheet in the 44th minute thanks to an accurate pass from Pulisic.
The first and almost only attempt in the entire game for La Verde was a long-range shot that Roberto Carlos Fernandez tried unsuccessfully in the 50th minute.
In less than ten minutes, Bolivia was saved from conceding a third goal, first from a cross that Balogun took advantage of, but was disallowed for an offside position.
The other save came in the 60th minute, when Viscarra beat Pulisic to clear his shot.
The home side's attacks continued, although they lacked a bit of luck and precision to add to their tally.
In the 56th minute, Antonee Robinson made a pass that the newly introduced Ricardo Pepi, striker of Dutch PSV Eindhoven, could not reach.
Viscarra was the protagonist for La Verde, clearing the attacks of Pulisic and Pepi, who had a last-ditch attempt blocked by the Bolivian goalkeeper at the end of the match.
In the second matchday, the United States will face Panama in Atlanta and Bolivia will take on Uruguay in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

En el cuarto dia de competencias por la CONMEBOL Copa America 2024 se destacan los triunfos, en sus respectivos debuts, de EE.UU. y Uruguay
Uruguay venció 3-1 a Panamá en su debut en la Copa América.
Con goles de Maximiliano Araújo, Darwin Núñez y Matías Viña, Uruguay le ganó 3 a 1 a Panamá en el Hard Rock Stadium de Miami por la primera fecha del Grupo C de la CONMEBOL Copa América.
El equipo dirigido por Marcelo Bielsa tuvo un comienzo frenético de partido, imprimiéndole un ritmo muy intenso y generando una gran cantidad de situaciones para convertir. Al minuto, Giorgian De Arrascaeta estuvo cerca de marcar con un tiro desde afuera del área que se fue por poco, y a los 5' el que intentó fue Núñez con un remate que le trabaron con lo justo. Un par de minutos más tarde, un centro de Nández provocó un mal despeje de Fariña que casi se la mete en contra, y a los 11' Darwin Núñez cayó en el área rival reclamando un penal del arquero, que no fue sancionado.
A los 15' llegó el gol que abrió el marcador, con un fenomenal remate desde afuera del área de Maximiliano Araújo que se metió en el ángulo y que desató la locura del público celeste en Miami. Lejos de bajar el ritmo, a los 17' Darwin Núñez estuvo cerca de aumentar diferencias con un potente tiro que el arquero contuvo en dos tiempos, y a los 19' el que lo tuvo fue Giorgian De Arrascaeta con un gran cabezazo que tapó el guardameta.
Poco a poco, la intensidad de Uruguay fue mermando, pero a los 28' volvió a llegar a fondo con un gran centro de Valverde que Darwin Núñez conectó de primera, pero Mosquera tapó de forma espectacular. Antes del cierre del primer tiempo, Panamá tuvo su primea aproximación clara con un tiro de Fajardo que exigió a Rochet.
En el complemento, la Celeste no pudo repetir todo lo bueno hecho en el primer tiempo, y los canaleros mostraron su mejor versión. Fajardo primero con un potente tiro que se fue desviado, y José Luis Rodríguez con un remate peligroso que contuvo Rochet, estuvieron cerca de darle el empate al conjunto centroamericano. Uruguay avisó sobre los 71' con un tiro desviado de Nicolás De La Cruz, pero recién pudo liquidarlo sobre el final, con una muy buena definición de Darwin Núñez para estampar el 2 a 0, y poco después con un cabezazo letal de Matías Viña que estableció el 3 a 0.
Ya en los descuentos, Murillo clavó un gran remate cruzado que se metió en el ángulo para establecer el 3 a 1 con el que se cerró el partido, que marcó el debut triunfal de la Celeste de Bielsa.
Pulisic llevó a Estados Unidos al debut triunfal ante Bolivia en la Copa América.
Estados Unidos debutó en la Copa América 2024 con un triunfo 2-0 ante Bolivia, en el AT&T Stadium de Arlington, Texas. El jugador de Milan Christian Pulisic abrió el marcador con un golazo a tres minutos del inicio, convirtiendo además el que hasta ahora es el gol más rápido del torneo, y también asistió a Folarin Balogun para que anotara el segundo a los 44'.
El equipo norteamericano hizo sentir la localía desde los primeros segundos del encuentro y le bastaron tres minutos para que, asistido por Tim Weah, su capitán hiciera el primero, con un remate hacia el lado derecho que pasó rozando la mano del arquero boliviano Guillermo Viscarra.
A los dirigidos por el brasileño Antonio Carlos Zago les costó retener y robar los balones y casi no se acercaron al arco estadounidense.
Balogun tuvo al menos dos oportunidades de anotar, primero en el minuto 36, pero no pudo alcanzar un centro de Weah y dos minutos después, cuando probó un disparo lo suficientemente suave para que el intento muera en las manos del arquero de la Verde.
El delantero del Mónaco de la Ligue 1 se pudo dar el gusto de anotar en el minuto 44 gracias a un certero pase de Pulisic.
El primer y casi único intento en todo el juego para la Verde fue un tiro de larga distancia que Roberto Carlos Fernández probó sin éxito en el minuto 50.
En menos de diez minutos, Bolivia se salvó de sufrir el tercer gol en contra, primero en un centro aprovechado por Balogun, pero que fue anulado por posición adelantada.
La otra salvada fue en el minuto 60, cuando Viscarra le ganó un duelo a Pulisic al despejar su disparo.
Los ataques locales no cesaron en adelante, aunque les faltó un poco de suerte y precisión para ampliar la cuenta.
Como en el minuto 56, cuando Antonee Robinson hizo un pase que el recién ingresado Ricardo Pepi, delantero del PSV Eindhoven neerlandés, no pudo alcanzar.
Viscarra fue el protagonista de la Verde al despejar los ataques de Pulisic y Pepi, quien tuvo un último intento frenado por el meta boliviano sobre el final del encuentro.
En la segunda fecha, Estados Unidos se enfrentará con Panamá en Atlanta y Bolivia se medirá con Uruguay en East Rutherford, Nueva Jersey.
