Spain showed plenty of character on Monday to come from behind to beat Morocco 2-1 and advance to the football final of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Santi Denia's side were dealt a blow in the first half by the tournament's leading scorer, Soufiane Rahimi. The Moroccan 9 scored from the penalty spot after a penalty by Juan Miranda, reviewed via VAR, and opened the scoring. España demostró mucho carácter este lunes para remontar un resultado adverso ante Marruecos, imponerse por 2-1 y avanzar a la final de fútbol de los Juegos Olímpicos de París 2024.
El equipo de Santi Denia sufrió un mazazo en la primera mitad, por intermedio del goleador del certamen: Soufiane Rahimi. El 9 marroquí ejecutó desde los doce pasos tras un penal cometido por Juan Miranda, revisado vía VAR, y abrió el marcador. Pero además festejó en la cara del guardameta Arnau Tenas, poniéndole condimento al encuentro.

Pero el conjunto europeo no se quedaría ahí y lo seguiría buscando. Aunque el desequilibrio llegaría sobre el final, a los 85', por intermedio del ingresado Juanlu. El lateral leyó muy bien la jugada que se estaba gestando por derecha, se filtró y fue asistido por Fermín López y, en diagonal al arco, remató lo más cruzado que pudo para el 2-1.
Marruecos fue a la carga por el empate, pero el encuentro se fue sin más emociones y España aseguró medalla y selló su clasificación a la final, donde esperará por Francia.
Las autoridades avisaron en la previa que el público iba a estar dividido en un 70% para Marruecos y un 30% para España. Fue un porcentaje muy optimista de para los europeos. El rojo y el verde fueron amplia mayoría con alguna bandera esporádica para apoyar al combinado de Santi Denia en un Vélodrome que no se llenó. France had a scare in Lyon, but managed to pull through. The home side were trailing to Egypt and only equalised late on to force extra time, where they were able to win 3-1. In the final for the men's Olympic gold medal at Paris 2024, they will face Spain on Friday 9 August at the Parc des Princes in Paris.
The French were anxious from the outset. Thierry Henry's side had already given a warning before the first five minutes with a Michael Olise effort, a foretaste of what was to follow.
But the Pharaohs showed that they did not get to this stage by chance. They tried to open up play down the flanks and the speed of their players put the French on their toes every time they won the back line.
A header from Omar Fayed came close to springing a surprise. However, in the next move, Olise again put the Africans on their guard with a long shot that went just wide of the upright.

Pero los Faraones demostraban que no llegaron por casualidad a esta instancia. Intentaron abrir el juego por las bandas y la rapidez de sus jugadores puso en alerta a los galos, cada vez que ganaron la línea de fondo.
Un cabeza de Omar Fayed estuvo cerca de entregar la sorpresa. Sin embargo, en la jugada siguiente, Olise volvió a poner en alerta a los africanos, con un largo remate que se fue muy cerca del vertical.

Tras la desventaja, la presión de los franceses se hizo insostenible para los africanos. Presión permanente, la gran actuación del golero Hamza Alaa y un par de tiros en los palos describían el momento del duelo.
Eso, hasta los 82 minutos, cuando Jean-Philippe Mateta remató con la derecha desde el centro del área para poner el balón en el rincón izquierdo y dejar las cifras 1-1.
Los minutos finales del tiempo reglamentario fueron testigos de la enorme intensidad de los galos. A tres del final, un cabezazo de Mateta estuvo cerca de hacer la diferencia, pero la pelota se fue sobre el arco egipcio.
Con el empate consumado, el partido debió irse al tiempo suplementario. Periodo que no pudo comenzar de peor manera para la Faraones, quienes quedaron 10 tras la expulsión de Fayed por una segunda amarilla.
Fue el punto de inflexión para los europeos, que no demoraron en marcar la diferencia. En el octavo minuto de primer tiempo agregado, Mateta aprovechó una asistencia de Kiliann Sildillia para lograr el 2-1.
En el comienzo del segundo suplementario, Olise -jugador de Bayern de Múnich alemán- consiguió el 3-1 con un remate desde el borde del área para asegurar el boleto a la final.
