For personal reasons I had to be absent for a couple of days and could not continue with the daily reports and analysis of Euro 2024.
As a synthesis I share with the community all the most outstanding results of the week.
Romania beat Ukraine and achieved its second victory in the history of the European Championship.
Romania caused a surprise at Euro 2024 in Germany with a 3-0 win over Ukraine in the first matchday of Group E. It also achieved its second win in the history of the tournament.
The match was back-and-forth until the first half hour. Goalkeeper Lunin made a bad clearance, left the ball to Denis Man who immediately gave it to Stanciu and from the edge of the box he shot a right-footed shot that traveled at 116km/h for a 1-0 lead. Minutes later, the Romanian captain attempted an Olympic goal but was denied by the crossbar.
In the second half, Ukraine came out with the attitude of wanting to turn it around but within four minutes the Romanian team was already leading 3-0. Razvan Marin capitalized on a great counterattacking play with a goal from outside the box, Lunin barely grazed the ball with his arm.
For the third, Denis Man, dodging several players in the Ukrainian box, sent a low cross into the ground and Denis Dragus only had to push it in to seal Romania's second Euro win.
Romania had won only one Euro Cup match before and that was in the 2000 edition when they beat England 3-2. The goals were scored by Chivu, Munteanu and Ganea, who scored a penalty goal on the hour.
Slovakia stunned Belgium and got off to a winning start at Euro 2024.
With Lukaku as a big target for his many mistakes on clear chances and with two goals disallowed by the VAR, with Doku as the protagonist for the mistake that led to the Slovak goal and with the feeling of being a disappointment again despite not being a favorite, Belgium crashed in his debut at this Euro 2024 against Slovakia (0-1), which competed to the best of their ability to surprise and place second in Group E.
Although they are not favourites, but with several top players, it was the perfect moment for Belgium, who, despite not being contenders, were expected to make a good start against Slovakia, an inferior team on paper, who were not intimidated by the Belgian stars and took three points with skill, hard work and practicality.
And after a superlative start by Doku on the right side, the City player, facing with versatility, boldness and success, few things could point to the game getting out of hand so soon to Belgium, which incidentally formed with Carrasco at left back. But soccer, especially in international tournaments, changes in a moment.
Because it was in the blink of an eye when everything went against Belgium. With two clear protagonists. The first was Lukaku, who seemed to extend that match against Croatia in Qatar 2022 with two errors in the first two clear chances, in which he had two one-on-one chances that he failed to define. And the second, Doku himself, the author of the imbalance in the aforementioned occasions and a killer transfer at the exit of the ball that ended with Slovakia's goal.
From one area to another, in just 30 seconds, from 1-0 and possible 2-0 to 0-1. So was the setback for Belgium and the awakening of a Slovakia that had nothing to envy to his rival after 90 minutes and had more chances to extend the score, because it worked like a charm under the leadership of Francesco Calzona from the bench, Napoli coach in the last part of the season, and his pupil in the team partenopeo Stanislav Lobotka on the pitch.
The Central European team pressed a throw-in close to the Belgian box and found some oil. Doku, with good intentions but with poor execution, left his defense sold, who could do little to stop the shot of the first Slovakian and the rebound that Casteels left on a plate for Schranz, who in the 7th minute put his team ahead and punished Lukaku's mistakes.
Dizzy after the blow conceded for a few minutes, Belgium was able to regain some control of the match through possession, with De Bruyne giving meaning to the possession to not definitively lose control of a match in which everything seemed to go against Lukaku.
Because while Dubravka missed the ball and it was Trossard who shot high when there was no goalkeeper, trying to beat a defender who corrected the position of the goalkeeper, it was Lukaku who again had the ball bouncing inside the area and the goal in front of him to equalize the match. Again, for the third time in just 45 minutes, he miskicked.
Casteels also had to intervene to prevent Slovakia from closing out the game with a great volley from Haralsin in the twilight of the first act that again dented the little confidence that had gained a Belgium that went to the break unsettled.
They came out ready to turn the scoreline around, but Lukaku was once again denied in front of goal. He found it in the 56th minute, seemed to reconcile with himself, break with his dismal game and go from villain to hero. But the VAR deprived him of any enjoyment with the offside flag, further embittering him another afternoon to forget wearing maroon.
It wasn't just Lukaku, it looked like Belgium were jinxed. Bakayoko shot from the heart of the area, with Dubravka out of position. But not even with that. Kancko, under the posts, cleared the shot off the line.
Belgium turned to attack and Slovakia began to suffer, to bail out. The chances began to come more and more often, but without success. Until Openda, who entered in the 84th minute, took his speed for a walk to get to the back line and give back to Lukaku, who nailed his first shot to a corner.
Belgium celebrated and Slovakia gave it up for lost. But a handball on Openda's drive, which was reviewed by the referee on the pitch-side screen, once again caught up with Lukaku and Belgium.
With the goal disallowed, Belgium could take no more. Slovakia took the three points to move into second place behind Romania, the Belgians' next opponents.
France had nothing to spare and barely beat Austria in their Euro debut.
France was not the machine everyone expected, but its quality was enough to beat Austria 1-0 in its debut at Euro 2024. Towards the end, Mbappé suffered a blow to the face and had to leave the pitch.
Deschamps' side was not sharp. The connections did not appear and Kylian Mbappé, the man called to lead the French offense, hardly stood out. So subdued were the last world finalists that the only difference in the game came after an own goal.
Kiki Mbappé, who would later leave the field after suffering a blow to his nose, broke through the left side of the Austrian defense, sent in the cross and Wöber ended up scoring in his own net with a header in the 28th minute.
Austria left the stadium with their heads held high. They put France in trouble on more than one occasion and even deserved a goal in the first half.
With space and Austria desperately trying to find an equalizer, France could have settled the game, but their finishing in the final meters was precarious. The clearest chance was at the feet of Mbappé, who missed a goal he has rarely missed.
He headed the ball towards Pentz's area with almost no resistance from the Austrian defense. He had time to settle, to profile for his lethal right and tried to place the ball near the left post. His shot was too wide and he ended up sending it straight out, something that caught the eye.
France ended up suffering from Austria's crosses into the box, which were not dangerous enough to alter the final score.
It was not the best performance, but France fulfilled its role as favorite in the game and achieved a victory that puts it on track in Group D, which for now has the Netherlands as leader.
In the next matchday, the French will face Ronald Koeman's team, while Austria will face Poland in another day of Eurocup action that you can enjoy live on ESPN and Star+.
Arda Güler scored a stunning goal for Turkey against Georgia.
The creative midfielder Arda Güler, star of Turkey and Real Madrid, scored a tremendous goal during the victory over Georgia 3-1, in a match played at the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund and corresponding to the first date of Group J of the European Championship.
Mert Müldür opened the scoring for the Turks in the first half and Kerem Aktürkoglu closed it in stoppage time. Georges Mikautadze equalized for Georgia.
Güler's goal came in the 65th minute, with the match tied 1-1. Güler was replaced in the 79th minute by Yusuf Yazici.
Güler received in the attacking zone, on the right side, and before getting into the penalty area, he took a fantastic shot with his left foot that was impossible for Giorgi Mamardashvili to stop.
Turkey thus earned their first three points. In addition to Georgia, they share a group with Portugal and the Czech Republic.
CR7's Portugal took advantage of their luck and beat the Czech Republic in their debut at the European Championship.

It was not a great performance by the Portuguese team, because their ball control lacked variants and attacking forcefulness. Not even a very mobile Cristiano could make Roberto Martinez's team crystallize their advances.
The Czech Republic, on the other hand, had a great start and brought danger to the opponent's area during the first 15 minutes. Then they lost steam and turned to counter-attacking as their only offensive weapon.
Nevertheless, they managed to open the scoring with Provod's goal and put Portugal in trouble. Their other highlight was their defensive solidity, especially in aerial crosses, but this was overshadowed by Hranac's two misfortunes.
In the end, Albania drew 2-2 with Croatia, leaving them close to elimination.
Albania celebrated, then suffered, then celebrated. Up front, he opted for Bruno Petković instead of Ante Budimir.
Will it be the end of Luka Modric in his national team jersey or will there be one more life for the Real Madrid midfielder in the current Euro campaign? That is the big question that all soccer fans around the world are asking themselves today.
Group B, with this tie, looked like this: Spain and Italy, with one game played, three points each. Croatia and Albania, with two games played, one point each.

Germany defeated Hungary on Wednesday at the Stuttgart Arena, in Stuttgart (Germany), on Matchday 2 of Group A of the UEFA Euro 2024.
With this result, the German National Team has already put its name in the round of 16, so now it has to play against Switzerland on the third matchday and then wait for its next opponent in the round of 16 of the Euro.
n Germany they showed a good level, although they did not go over their opponents, as they did on the first matchday, when they defeated the Scottish team 5-1.
Jamal Musiala opened the scoring in the 22nd minute of the first half. The Bayern Munich striker took advantage of the ball in the Hungarian area and scored with pleasure.
Later, in the second half, Julian Nagelsmann's team increased the lead at 67'. This came through the midfielder Ilkay Gündogan, who left-footed a pass from Maximilian Mittelstadt on the left.

Switzerland and Scotland drew 1-1 on Wednesday as part of the second day of Group A of the European Championship in a match that had defensive errors and a real goal by Xherdan Shaqiri as protagonists.
The destiny of the match was determined by mistakes in the last line. First, because Scotland opened the scoring thanks to an own goal by Fabian Schar, who put his foot on a shot by Scott Mctominay that had no danger and ended up confusing the goalkeeper.
Secondly, the Swiss equalizer was a masterpiece by Shaqiri. But the little Swiss player was given the chance to produce that goal due to a serious mistake by Anthony Ralston, who tried to play the ball backwards on a run-out and gave it away.
With the draw, Switzerland remained with one foot and a half in the Round of 16, where the hosts and group leaders, Germany, are already installed after Wednesday's 2-0 win over Hungary.

The only one who was very precise was the evergreen Shaqiri, who took advantage of Ralston's aforementioned mistake to score a fantastic left-footed shot from outside the box, which literally went into the corner of the net.
With the match 1-1, Switzerland had the first chance in the 58th minute, when Dan Ndoye had a one-on-one in the center of the box, but could not beat the British goalkeeper Angus Gunn, who brushed the ball just enough to keep it out of the net.
Then it was Scotland's turn, and in the 66th minute they almost broke the deadlock through a good header by Grant Hanley after a corner kick from the right, but the opposite post said no to the ball.

Por razones personales tuve que ausentarme un par de dias y no puede seguir con los reportes diarios y el análisis de la Eurocopa 2024.
A modo de sintesis comparto con la comunidad todos los resultados más destacados de la semana.
Rumania goleó a Ucrania y logró su segundo triunfo en la historia de la Eurocopa.
Rumania dio la sorpresa en la Eurocopa 2024 de Alemania al golear por 3-0 a Ucrania en la primera fecha del grupo E. Además, logró su segundo triunfo en la historia del torneo.
El partido fue de ida y vuelta hasta la primera media hora. El arquero Lunin despejó mal, le dejó la pelota a Denis Man que se la dio de inmediato a Stanciu y desde el borde del área sacó un derechazo que viajó a 116km/h para el 1-0 parcial. Minutos después, el capitán rumano intentó un gol olímpico pero el travesaño se lo negó.
En la segunda mitad, Ucrania salió con la actitud de querer darlo vuelta pero en cuatro minutos la selección rumana ya ganaba 3-0. Razvan Marin capitalizó una gran jugada de contraataque con un gol desde afuera del área, Lunin apenas rozó la pelota con su brazo.
Para el tercero, se lució Denis Man esquivando a varios jugadores en el área ucraniana, envió un centro rasante al piso y Denis Dragus solo tuvo que empujarla para sellar la segunda victoria de Rumania en una Eurocopa.
Rumania solo había ganado un partido de la Eurocopa y fue en la edición del 2000 cuando superaron por 3-2 a la Selección de Inglaterra. Los autores de los goles fueron Chivu, Munteanu y Ganea, que marcó un gol de penal sobre la hora.
Eslovaquia sorprendió a Bélgica y arranca con victoria en la Eurocopa 2024.
Con Lukaku como gran señalado por sus múltiples errores en ocasiones claras y con dos goles anulados por el VAR, con Doku como protagonista por el fallo que llevó al gol eslovaco y con la sensación de volver a ser una decepción pese a no ser una favorita, Bélgica se estrelló en su estreno en esta Eurocopa 2024 contra Eslovaquia (0-1), que compitió a las mil maravillas para dar la sorpresa y colocarse como segunda del Grupo E.
Sin portar el cartel de favorita, pero con varios jugadores de primer nivel, era el momento perfecto para el paso adelante de Bélgica, de la que, pese a no ser candidata, se esperaba un buen estreno ante Eslovaquia, una selección inferior sobre el papel que no se amilanó ante las estrellas belgas y se llevó 3 puntos con oficio, trabajo y practicidad.
Y es que tras un inicio superlativo de Doku por el perfil diestro, a pie cambiado, el jugador del City, encarando con versatilidad, descaro y acierto, pocas cosas podían apuntar a que el partido se le fuera de las manos tan pronto a Bélgica, que por cierto formó con Carrasco como lateral izquierdo. Pero el fútbol, y más en torneos de selecciones, cambia en un momento.
Porque fue en un abrir y cerrar de ojos cuando a Bélgica se le puso todo en contra. Con dos protagonistas claros. El primero un Lukaku que pareció alargar aquel partido contra Croacia en Qatar 2022 con dos errores en las dos primeras ocasiones claras, en las que tuvo dos mano a mano que no acertó a definir. Y el segundo, el propio Doku, autor del desequilibrio en las mencionadas ocasiones y de una cesión matadora en salida de balón que acabó con el gol de Eslovaquia.
De un área a otra, en apenas 30 segundos, del 1-0 y posible 2-0 al 0-1. Así fue el varapalo de Bélgica y el despertar de una Eslovaquia que nada tuvo que envidiar a su rival cumplidos los 90 minutos y que gozó de más ocasiones para ampliar el marcador, porque funcionó a las mil maravillas bajo el liderazgo de Francesco Calzona desde el banquillo, entrenador del Nápoles en el último tramo de temporada, y de su pupilo en el equipo partenopeo Stanislav Lobotka en el césped.
Presionó la selección centroeuropea un saque de banda pegado al área belga y encontró petróleo. Doku, con buena intención pero con mala ejecución, dejó vendida a su defensa, que poco pudo hacer para detener el disparo del primer eslovaco y el rechace que dejó Casteels en bandeja para Schranz, que en el minuto 7 puso por delante a los suyos y castigó los errores de Lukaku.
Mareada tras el golpe encajado durante unos minutos, pudo recuperar un poco de control del partido mediante la posesión Bélgica, con De Bruyne dando sentido a la posesión para no perder definitivamente el control de un partido en el que todo pareció ir en contra de Lukaku.
Porque si bien Dubravka erró en salida de balón y fue Trossard el que disparó alto cuando no había portero, intentando superar a un zaguero que corrigió la posición del meta, fue Lukaku el que volvió a tener el balón botando dentro del área y la portería de frente para igualar el partido. De nuevo, por tercerea vez en apenas 45 minutos, definió mal.
Tuvo también que intervenir Casteels para evitar que Eslovaquia cerrara el duelo con una gran volea de Haralsin en el ocaso del primer acto que mermó de nuevo la poca confianza que había ganado una Bélgica que se fue al descanso descolocada.
Salió dispuesta a darle la vuelta al marcador, pero Lukaku estuvo otra vez negado de cara al gol. Lo encontró en el minuto 56, pareció reconciliarse consigo mismo, romper con su nefasto partido y pasar de villano a héroe. Pero el VAR le privó de todo disfrute con el fuera de juego que señaló, amargándole más todavía otra tarde para el olvido vistiendo de granate.
No fue solo Lukaku, parecía que Bélgica estaba gafada. Bakayoko disparó desde el corazón del área, con Dubravka fuera de posición. Pero ni con esas. Kancko, bajo palos, sacó el disparo sobre la línea.
Se volcó Bélgica en ataque y Eslovaquia empezó a sufrir, a achicar aguas. Las ocasiones se empezaron a suceder con mayor asiduidad, pero sin éxito. Hasta que Openda, que entró en el minuto 84, sacó a pasear su velocidad para llegar a la línea de fondo y ceder atrás para Lukaku, que clavó de primeras su disparo a una escuadra.
Celebró Bélgica y Eslovaquia lo dio por perdido. Pero una mano en la conducción de Openda, revisada por el colegiado en la pantalla a pie de campo, volvió a cebarse con Lukaku y Bélgica.
Anulado el tanto, Bélgica no pudo más. Eslovaquia se llevó los 3 puntos para colocarse segunda tras Rumanía, el próximo rival de los belgas.
A Francia no le sobró nada y le ganó con lo justo a Austria en su debut en la Eurocopa
Francia no fue la máquina que todos suponían pero con su calidad le alcanzó para superar a Austria por 1-0 en su debut en la Eurocopa 2024. Sobre el final, Mbappé sufrió un golpe en la cara y tuvo que salir de la cancha.
El conjunto de Deschamps no estuvo fino. Las conexiones no aparecieron y Kylian Mbappé, el hombre llamado a liderar la ofensiva francesa, apenas destacó. Tan apagado estuvieron los últimos finalistas del mundo que la única diferencia en el juego llegó tras un gol en contra.
Kiki Mbappé, que luego dejaría la cancha por sufrir un golpe en su naríz, desbordó por el costado izquierdo de la defensa austríaca, envió el centro y Wöber terminó marcando en su propio arco con un desvío de cabeza a los 28 minutos.
Austria se marchó del estadio con la cabeza en alto. Puso en aprietos a Francia en más de una oportunidad y hasta mereció un gol en la primera mitad del compromiso.
Ya con espacios y con un Austria que se abocó a conseguir el empate de manera desesperada, Francia pudo haber liquidado el cotejo, pero su puntería en los metros finales fue precoupante. La más clara estuvo en los pies del crack Mbappé, que erró un gol que pocas veces ha fallado.
Encaró con pelota dominada hacia el área de Pentz y casi sin resistencia de la defensa de Austria. Tuvo tiempo de acomodarse, de perfilarse para su derecha letal e intentó colocar la bola junto al poste izquierdo. Su remate se abrió demasiado y terminó enviándola directamente afuera, algo que llamó la atención.
Francia terminó sufriendo los centros al área de Austria, que no fueron lo suficientemente peligrosos como para alterar el resultado final.
No fue la mejor presentación, pero Francia cumplió con su papel de favorito en el juego y logró una victoria que lo encamina en el grupo D, que por ahora tiene a Países Bajos como líder.
En la próxima jornada, los franceses enfrentarán al conjunto de Ronald Koeman, mientras que Austria chocará con Polonia en otra jornada de acción de la Eurocopa.
Arda Güler hizo un golazo para Turquía ante Georgia.
El mediocampista creativo Arda Güler, figura de Turquía y Real Madrid, hizo un tremendo golazo durante la victoria ante Georgia 3-1, en partido disputado en el Signal Iduna Park de Dortmund y correspondiente a la primera fecha del Grupo J de la Eurocopa.

Güler recibió en zona de ataque, sobre el sector derecho, y antes de meterse en el área grande sacó un disparo fantástico, con el botín zurdo, que fue imposible de detener para Giorgi Mamardashvili.
De esta manera, Turquía sumó sus primeros tres puntos. Comparte grupo, además de Georgia, con Portugal y República Checa.
El Portugal de CR7 aprovechó su suerte y venció a República Checa en el debut en la Eurocopa.
El Portugal de Cristiano Ronaldo, que fue titular y jugó todo el partido, aprovechó este martes su buena fortuna para darle vuelta el partido a República Checa y quedarse con un épico triunfo por 2-1 en su debut en la Eurocopa 2024.
El equipo de CR7 tuvo el dominio de la pelota durante 75 de los 90 minutos pero, así y todo, debió remontar el marcador para no irse con las manos vacías, ya que los checos abrieron el marcador a los 62, en su primer ataque del segundo tiempo, gracias a un derechazo mágico de Lukas Provod desde afuera del área.
De allí en más fue casi un monólogo de Portugal, que asedió a su rival pero necesitó de una noche para el olvido de Robin Hranac para revertir la situación.
El defensor checo le dio primero el empate a su rival con un gol en contra a los 69 y luego, a los 91, quiso despejar un centro por bajo que llegaba desde la izquierda y, en lugar de hacerlo, le terminó dejando la pelota regalada a Francisco Conceicao quien, a dos metros de la meta, solamente la tuvo que empujar para poner el 2-1.
No fue un gran rendimiento el del conjunto luso, porque a su dominio de pelota le faltaron variantes y contundencia en ataque. Ni siquiera un Cristiano muy movedizo pudo conseguir que el conjunto dirigido por Roberto Martínez cristalizara sus avances.
República Checa, por su parte, tuvo un gran comienzo y llevó peligro al área rival durante los primeros 15 minutos. Luego se desinfló y pasó a tener el contraataque como única arma ofensiva.
No obstante, logró abrir el marcador con el golazo de Provod y puso en aprietos a Portugal. Su otro punto destacado fue la solidez defensiva, sobre todo en los centros aéreos, pero eso se vio opacado por las dos desgracias de Hranac.
En el final, Albania le empató a Croacia 2-2 y lo dejó cerca de la eliminación
Albania festejó, después sufrió, y finalmente celebró. Al término del primer tiempo, el equipo de Sylvinho ganaba con el único gol de Qazim Laci a los 11 minutos, pero en el complemento, Croacia logró dar vuelta el resultado en dos minutos: Andrej Kramaric en el minuto 74 y Klaus Gjazula, en contra, en el 76.
Parecía que el conjunto de Zlatko Dalic, que volvió al igual que contra España a mostrar muchísimas dudas en el arranque, iba a sumar sus primeros tres puntos en el Grupo B de la Eurocopa de Alemania 2024, pero el propio Gjazula, en tiempo de descuento -más precisamente en el minuto 95-, sorprendió a todos para decretar la igualdad final.
Fue, lo que se dice, un empate eléctrico, emocionante, muy divertido por lo cambiante y que deja a Croacia, una de las selecciones siempre peligrosas, obligada a ganar en la última fecha ante Italia y esperar resultados para evitar la eliminación.
Dalic hizo de entrada cambios respecto al equipo que perdió ante España, aunque no terminaron dando el resultado esperado. Suiza y Escocia empataron 1-1 este miércoles en el marco de la segunda fecha del Grupo A de la Eurocopa en un partido que tuvo a los errores defensivos y a un verdadero golazo de Xherdan Shaqiri como protagonistas.
Los desaciertos en la última línea marcaron el destino del encuentro. Primero, porque Escocia abrió el tanteador gracias a un gol en contra de Fabian Schar, que interpuso su pie a un tiro de Scott Mctominay que no llevaba ningún peligro y terminó desconcertando al arquero.
Segundo, porque el gol del empate suizo fue una obra de arte de Shaqiri. Pero al pequeño futbolista helvético se le dio la chance de fabricar esa definición por un grave error de Anthony Ralston, quien intentó jugó la pelota hacia atrás en una salida y se la regaló.
Con el empate, Suiza quedó con un pie y medio en octavos de final, donde ya está instalado el anfitrión y líder de este grupo, Alemania, tras el triunfo de este miércoles por 2-0 ante Hungría.
Fue Escocia el que se hizo cargo del dominio de la pelota en la mayor parte del encuentro, con una Suiza más táctica, que priorizó fortalecerse en el fondo para después intentar salir de contra.
Eso fue lo mejor del partido: un choque de estilos muy marcados que, cada uno a su forma, produjo ocasiones de peligro suficientes como para llevarse los tres puntos. Si después no estuvieron finos a la hora de concretarlas, ya es otra discusión.
El único que estuvo muy preciso fue el eterno Shaqiri, que aprovechó el error ya mencionado de Ralston para meter un zurdazo fantástico, de primera y desde afuera del área, que entró literalmente en el ángulo.
Con el choque 1-1, lo tuvo primero Suiza a los 58, cuando Dan Ndoye tuvo un mano a mano, sobre el centro del área, y no pudo ante el arquero británico Angus Gunn, que rozó la pelota lo suficiente para que no entrara al arco.
Luego llegó el turno de Escocia, que a los 66 casi desnivela a través de un buen cabezazo de Grant Hanley tras un tiro de esquina desde la derecha, pero el palo opuesto le dijo que no.
El final fue dramático, con los británicos volcados al ataque en busca de una victoria que los dejara con más chances de clasificar. Hubo varios centros muy venenosos que cerca estuvieron de terminar dentro del arco, pero nadie logró empujar el balón y, así, todo quedó 1-1.
