Yet the tragic reality is that today we are destroying those very trees without restraint. Recently, many trees of different species around our madrasa were unjustly cut down by a group of people. This incident is not only unfortunate but deeply alarming.
The trees surrounding the madrasa were not merely sources of shade or beauty. They served as shelters for birds, provided clean air for students, and played a vital role in maintaining the natural balance of the area. With their removal, the environmental damage may not be immediately visible, but its consequences are long-term. Rising temperatures, increased air pollution, and loss of biodiversity are direct outcomes of this act.
What is most concerning is that this tree cutting was carried out without any legal process or proper authorization. This is not only a crime against the environment but also a serious moral failure. An incident like this near a religious and educational institution raises critical questions about our values and level of awareness. Where tree plantation should be promoted to teach students environmental responsibility, cutting trees sends a dangerously wrong message.
From a first-principles perspective, one truth becomes clear: no form of development is sustainable if it destroys nature. Cutting down trees for short-term benefit means depriving future generations of their rightful inheritance. Unless this mindset changes, environmental protection will remain nothing more than a slogan.
There is still a path forward. First, a proper investigation into the incident must be conducted, and those responsible should be held accountable. Second, immediate steps should be taken to replant trees in the affected area. Third, continuous initiatives should be introduced to raise environmental awareness among students and the local community.
Cutting a tree takes only a few minutes, but growing one takes many years. The choices we make today will shape the world of tomorrow. Let our commitment be to plant trees, not destroy them.
