Dear friends Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah I hope everyone is well and I am also well with your prayers and the infinite mercy of Allah Ta'ala. Today, I will discuss the importance of fasting in the light of the Holy Quran and Hadith. I hope you will like it.

Fasting or Roza is one of the five pillars of Islam. It is an important act of worship that has been made obligatory for Muslims to purify themselves, attain piety, and gain closeness to Allah.

The Importance of Fasting in the Quran

In the Holy Quran, Allah Ta'ala has clearly discussed the rulings of fasting.

1. The ruling on making fasting obligatory.

Allah Ta'ala says: O you who believe!  Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may attain piety. (Surah Al-Baqarah: 183)

2. The relationship between the month of Ramadan and the Quran: The month of Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was revealed, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs of the path and the criterion (between right and wrong). So whoever of you reaches it, let him fast therein. (Surah Al-Baqarah: 185)

The importance of fasting in the hadith: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has narrated many hadiths about the importance of fasting:

1. Fasting is a means of entering Paradise. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Whoever fasts Ramadan out of faith and in the hope of reward, all his previous sins will be forgiven. (Bukhari: 2014, Muslim: 760)

2. A special gate for those who fast: There is a gate in Paradise called 'Ar-Rayyan'.  Only the fasting person will enter through this door on the Day of Judgment

(Bukhari: 1896, Muslim: 1152)

3. Fasting is a shield

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: Fasting is a shield that will protect you from the Fire of Hell

(Muslim: 1151)

4. Two moments of joy for the fasting person: There are two moments of joy for the fasting person, one at the time of breaking the fast and the other when he meets his Lord

(Bukhari: 1904, Muslim: 1151)

Benefits of fasting

1. Teaches self-control and patience

2. Provides an opportunity to achieve piety

3. Teaches the poor to feel the pain

4. Ensures physical and mental well-being

5. One of the means of forgiveness of sins

Fasting is not just physical worship, it is a means of self-purification. It is proven from the Holy Quran and Hadith that through fasting, Muslims gain closeness to Allah, get sins forgiven, and get the opportunity to enter Paradise

Therefore, every Muslim should observe the fast of Ramadan properly and lead their lives according to its instructions
