Nurturing Quranic Recitation and Islamic Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim

Dear reader! Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah. how are you all Hope all are well by God's grace. I am also fine with your prayers and Allah's infinite mercy. Today's discussion is on " Nurturing Quranic Recitation and Islamic Culture Through Maktab Education"

Maktab-based education continues to leave a quiet yet deep impact on our society. As the first step in introducing children to religious education, familiarity with the Quran, and the development of Islamic manners and ethics, the role of the maktab is undeniable. Keeping that reality in mind, the recently organized Maktab Qirat and Islamic Ghazal Competition at the Porar Waqtiya Mosque turned into a unique and memorable event.

Being present at this program as a judge was both an honor and a source of great satisfaction for me. Alongside me, another judge, Mr. Tahrul Islam, also carried out this responsibility. We were invited to serve as judges by the respected teacher of Porar Waqtiya Mosque, Hafiz Md. Nasirul Islam. He has been sincerely and devotedly teaching the Quran to children for a long time. His initiative was not limited to organizing a competition; rather, through this event he created a beautiful environment to nurture children’s confidence, correct recitation, and love for Islamic culture.

From the moment we arrived at the mosque premises on the day of the event, it was clear how thoughtfully and carefully the program had been arranged. There was a visible sense of excitement and joy on the faces of the children. For some, it was their first time standing in front of a microphone, while others were eager to showcase the result of long days of practice. These emotions were clearly reflected in their expressions. The presence and encouragement of the guardians further added to the liveliness of the atmosphere.

As the participants began reciting verses from the Holy Quran during the Qirat competition, the entire environment became filled with a sense of sanctity and calm. While conducting our evaluation, we had to carefully consider aspects such as correct pronunciation, makhraj, tajwid, and melody. Many children demonstrated remarkable skill considering their young age, which was truly praiseworthy. Although maintaining neutrality is essential for a judge, it was impossible not to feel a deep sense of pride within.

The Islamic Ghazal competition was equally enjoyable and meaningful. When praises of Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him), along with messages of Islamic values and morality, were expressed through melodious voices, it felt as though a hopeful vision of the future was unfolding before us. If this generation grows up with such awareness and practice, society will undoubtedly move toward enlightenment. Some children performed confidently on stage, while others, despite their shyness, gave their best effort. As judges, we focused not only on determining results but also on encouraging and motivating the participants.

Although the overall arrangement of the event was grand, it was free from extravagance or unnecessary elements. Instead, it was marked by modesty, sincerity, and a clear purpose—to inspire children toward Islamic learning and practice. Under the guidance and supervision of Hafiz Md. Nasirul Islam, the program was conducted in an orderly and disciplined manner, which certainly deserves appreciation.

At the end of the program, during the prize distribution, the smiles on the children’s faces made it clear that this day would remain in their memories for a long time. Perhaps this small recognition will motivate them in the future to study the Quran more deeply or to engage further in Islamic cultural practices.

Overall, the Maktab Qirat and Islamic Ghazal Competition organized by Porar Waqtiya Mosque was a successful, meaningful, and inspiring initiative. Being a part of it as a judge was a matter of pride for me. I sincerely hope that such initiatives will continue in the future and that they will further strengthen the foundation of moral and religious education in our society.
