Anjuman class is basically an Islamic religious education-centered class or class cycle, which is usually run by a mosque, madrasa, Islamic organization or social welfare organization. The word "Anjuman" comes from Arabic and Persian sources, which means meeting, organization or council. Therefore, Anjuman class refers to an organized teaching system, where religious knowledge is disseminated, Quran-Hadith teaching, practicing life practices based on Islamic ideals, etc. are taught.
The purpose of Anjuman class is to educate people from different levels of society, especially children, adolescents and youth, in Islamic knowledge, help them develop their morality and character, and continue the practice of Islamic culture and values. These classes regularly provide education on Quran recitation, Hadith reading, prayer teaching, Dua-Masnun practice, Islamic history and creed.
In many cases, Anjuman classes are held one or two days a week at a special time, such as before Jumu'ah on Friday or on holidays. These classes are free of charge and there is no age, class or social status barrier to participation. Usually, local scholars, maulanas or Quranic Hafizs serve as teachers in these classes.
Various Islamic organizations in the subcontinent including Bangladesh such as Anjuman Mufidul Islam, Dawat-e-Islami, Tabligh Jamaat etc. organize such classes. Just as mosque-based Anjuman classes are popular in urban areas, such classes also play an important role in the spread of Islamic education in rural areas.
Anjuman classes are not only considered a means of acquiring religious knowledge, but also a means of social and moral development. Through this, the path to building a religiously based, moral and peaceful society is paved.
