Trump says Greenland will become part of the US ‘whether they like it or not’

Trump stated that the United States intends to take control of Greenland “whether they like it or not,” warning that both Russia and China are already increasing their military presence around the island, including warships and submarines.

He described U.S. ownership of Greenland as non-negotiable, arguing that America cannot adequately defend land it merely leases, insisting that true security comes only with full ownership. “You don’t defend leases the same way,” Trump said. “You defend ownership.”

While Trump said he remains open to negotiating a deal with Denmark, he made it clear that if an agreement cannot be reached peacefully, the United States would be prepared to pursue other options. He warned that if the deal does not happen “the easy way,” it would be done “the hard way,” emphasizing what he sees as Greenland’s strategic importance to U.S. national security.
