A power substation in Shchebekino, Belgorod region of Russia goes up in flames, leaving thousands without power in the region. There are other major sabotage acts in Germany, where two cables critical to the control of train services were found sabotaged. The act paralyzed train services in Berlin immediately. Another power station was sabotaged in Denmark - besides the bomb attack on Nord 1 & 2 pipelines.
In the middle of this, today; the United States has said it “does not exclude anything in the issue of supplying tactical missiles to Ukraine”, a statement that is loaded with enormous impact for the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Very little hope is left that the Russo-Ukrainian war will not end in a global conflict. Today, US president Joe Biden tapped on another dimension when he said his county will like to review its relationship with Saudi Arabia in view of the latest OPEC cut which has raised oil prices, adding to the hardship in Europe, mostly. If this review happens, the US could stop supplying weapons to the Saudis and then try to raise problems for them in many ways. But such a foreign policy choice will also mean rebuilding relations with Iran. Rebuilding relations with Iran has special implications which is related to what is going on on the streets of major cities throughout Iran presently.
If the US ruptures relations with Saudi Arabia, the immediate fallout may be like mud struck hard. The Saudis may try to exploit the incident in many ways in raising problems for the United States. This can lead to multiple polarizations of peoples along religious lines across the world. Countries where religion is impactful like Nigeria could be in hot water quickly. The war in Ukraine itself may now acquire a religious dimension and spread of its own.
If the US lifts restrictions on Ukraine's use of the long range weapons the US has supplied to it, it is almost certain Ukraine will promptly bomb Belgorod, St.Petersburg and Moscow and with time, Minsk, the capital of Belarus. This will turn the war to a War of the Cities, the type fought by Baghdad and Tehran in the mid 1980s. Russia will slip into a civil war for certain and in self preservation, NATO must become very active and set boots on the soil of Ukraine.
