Nigeria may be having a military situation on hand without knowing it. Russia announced just yesterday that it will help arm countries that are friendly to it (Reuters). Today, it published a roll of counties it considers friendly in Africa and Nigeria is not on that lists. It says it will deny the sale of spare parts and "components" to unfriendly countries.
This is a brusque one and it seems to mean all our Soviet era weapons will not get parts and ammo for some time. Little is made public about Nigeria's arsenal, but you can easily see that most of the light and heavy guns are Warsaw Pact. (The standard infantry rifle is Soviet anyway, but that one is just 'pure water' it's parts are everywhere).
All former Warsaw Pact counties manufacturing these 'components' at this time are heavily servicing Ukraine so it is in doubt of they will spare us some. Again, given the fact that Wagner, Russian private military group is engaged Mali, which is just 'round here, you want to ponder the implications of such a declaration. Mali drove out (disengaged) French forces from their country a few months ago and replaced them with Wagner. They are there in the name of combating terrorism, which has now affected 80% of West African countries. Wagner is also in the Central African Republic and in Cameroon next door where they have grown to lap roots and are into mining of gold and diamonds and are working on wider diversification into food through their registered business names: Lobaye Investment and Firsts Industrial Company. Of course they play the leaders of those nations, hitting their heads against terrorists and terrorism in general for extortion so as to advance their business interests.
Russia is under pressure to end this war its own way and one of the ways it can force that is to try to globalize it. Africa is vulnerable and it could be turned into a playground for this type of interests if we fail to sniff the issues from afar.
