The Tottenham Hotspurs are set for a very busy summer. The North London outfit is in for a board and team rehaul, with plenty of new arrivals. Owner Daniel Levy is working hard to bring in experienced names while also doing his best to keep Harry Kane in the squad.
One of the latest serious candidates for the manager job is Paulo Fonseca. Roma’s ex-manager is set to talk to the club’s board over a potential move that could see him sign a multiple-year deal. Interestingly enough, he was replaced in Roma by Jose Mourinho, Tottenham’s ex-manager who was fire by the Spurs for his reluctance to support the now-failed Super League.
The Right Man for the Job?
The 48-year old Portuguese didn’t have the fruitful Roma career everyone hoped for. However, he’s still a solid manager who could help bring out the best out of several Spurs players. In his Roma days, he didn’t manage to win a title, leading the club to a sole Europa League semi-final. However, many have been impressed with his coaching style, and one of those people is Daniel Levy.
With the expected appointment of former Juventus CFO Fabio Paratici, it seems that the recommendation came straight from the Italian. Paratici has enjoyed a great spell at Juventus, and he certainly has high recommendations for the Portuguese manager.
Tottenham have been frustrated by the failure to replace Mourinho so far. The talks with ex-Inter manager Antonio Conte have stalled over his high waged and reluctance to promote the club’s younger players. For a while, former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino was tipped to return to the club, but he eventually decided to stay at PSG.
Fonseca is set to meet the Spurs board in the coming days. It remains to be seen if he’ll impress them enough to secure a new job.
