Koeman first challenge with Barcelona President
Koeman and Laporta’s meeting behind closed doors in a brief and productive dialogue which lasted for half an hour to decide the future of who will run the team. Though Joan Laporta was accused of lack of respect upon persistent speculation regarding Koeman’s future as the manager, Laporta shared that several decisions must be made as the club looks to challenge for honors next season.
Details of the dialogue are yet to be uncovered as Joan Laporta is considering sacking Koeman, given his underwhelming season result. Although the club succeeded in winning the Copa del Rey, a record of just two victories in a whole season further increased the pressure on Koeman. It was not a successful season for the Culé team, however, it was not a bad one either. Due to the poor performance and premature elimination in the Champions League, the chief is yet to decide whether or not the Dutchman should stay; however, Koeman intends to finish his contract which ends in June 2022.
Koeman’s Ideas about the future of Barca
The Dutchman came out publicly in most recent posts, and this time facing Laporta with the same thoughts that he needs to be given the second year of his contract. He believes that his squad was not strong enough to win the double as most errors which cost points were coming from the amateurs or youngsters. He continued that, the Copa del Rey is just the beginning of a new era this summer so, he is looking to have a more qualified squad. He persistently unwrapped the need for more qualified players as he said, “Ansu Fati’s absence rendered the goal providing ability to shatter thus, it would be in the team’s best interest to sign a No 9 in the summer.” He equally urged Wijnaldum to increase his strength at his end while calling on Eric Garcia to provide a helping hand. His congrats to Lionel Messi went out without regret and he wraps up by saying, “Barca created more opportunities, but only lacks the competence to finishing.” At this stage, a decision is imminent as most lips mentioned the legendary midfielder Xavi meanwhile, Koeman’s future is unknown. It lasted for about 30 minutes, and surprisingly Koeman was spotted with a smiling face as he exits.
