Aguero and Eric Garcia Sign for Barca
It’s fair to say that FC Barcelona didn’t have a great season. While the team fought for the La Liga title almost to the end and won the Spanish Cup, Barcelona is a club that chases all titles every year. The appointment of Ronald Koeman still hasn’t provided fruitful results, but after the re-appointment of president Joan Laporta, things are looking for the better.
The old-new president knew that Barca needed reinforcements, and he wasted no time to get them. With the club in a difficult financial situation, Laporta has managed to snag two great players for free. Those are Sergio Aguero, the Manchester City legend, and his colleague from the Citizens, Eric Garcia.
Welcome Additions to the Squad
Lionel Messi desperately needed help upfront with the departure of Luis Suárez to Atlético Madrid. The Griezmann experiment clearly didn’t work, and Martin Braithwaite is not the striker Barcelona needs. Aguero is a welcome addition to the squad, and it helps that he’s very close with Messi.
Aguero may be 33 soon, but his resume is impeccable. He has scored over 260 goals for Manchester City in total, delivering countless titles. He didn’t have the luck to deliver the elusive CL title to the Citizens, but he’ll have a chance to add it to his portfolio with Barcelona.
Sergio Aguero is a deadly strike who’s in great shape and will certainly help Barcelona and Messi. He’s expected to deliver 20 goals at the very least, and with his knowledge of La Liga, he should score that many no problem.
The second free addition is Aguero’s colleague from Manchester City, Eric Garcia. He’s a very welcome addition to the squad too, more so because he’s an original La Masia product. Garlic left Barcelona for City in 2017, but has declined to extend his contract for a return home.
Barcelona’s defence was pretty leaky last season, and Garcia should strengthen it. He’ll have Gerard Piqué as his mentor and will definitely learn a lot from him. The fact that both he and Aguero arrived for free makes the transfers all the better.
Barcelona will have a much stronger squad next season, especially if it manages to snag the talked up free transfers of Memphis Depay and Georgio Wijnaldum.
