Every final needs to produce a winner, the Europa League was concluded on Wednesday night in Sevilla and Frankfurt got the crown after 120 minutes of action. It wasn't the result I wanted, I wish I could take the world back to before Frankfurt got the equalizer so that I can tell the Scottish team how to defend properly at that period to prevent them from conceding that equalizer.
God knew how much damage we will cause if he had given just one human that ability, things are definitely the best way they are now.
It was an opportunity for Rangers to win their first Europa League title but the team was just so unlucky again this time and Frankfurt seized the opportunity to double the number of the Europa League title in the club trophy cabinet. Not only did they win the title, the German side automatically booked a ticket for the 2022/23 Europa League competition despite finishing below the Europa League spot.
Frankfurt currently sits 11th on the league table, they must have invested so much in the Uefa Competition and it paid off. Winning the title again after 42 years must mean a lot to the club and fans in general.
Both teams had a great game and winners become unpredictable once a match heads into a penalty shootout, most times penalty doesn't judge the team's effort because a miss can throw the best team effort into the garbage just like we saw in the encounter earlier.
Rangers were lucky enough to get the opening goal in the 57th minute after a goalless first half, it was an error that led to a goal and Aribo just didn't let that opportunity go to waste.
I actually thought that goal was all Rangers needed to open a new chapter of the club's success but I was wrong, the team was sloppy after the goal and suffered for it. Frankfurt piled up so much pressure on the Scottish club's defense and they fell for it. Maury tapped in a low cross in the 69th minute, it was all they needed to keep their hopes alive of winning the title.
The fight went on and on but neither of the two teams could make a difference even till the end of 90 minutes. The winner had to be decided by a penalty shootout and unfortunately for Rangers, Aaron Ramsey failed to convert his turn into a goal. It was a great game but a disappointing one for Rangers else today's date would have been an unforgettable one in the history of the club.
Regardless of how much I wanted Rangers to win the title for the first time, it would be unprofessional of me not to wish the German side a huge congratulations for the team's success.
There are still two Uefa finals to be played this month and I believe they will give us bigger action than we saw earlier, Roma and Feyenoord will face off in the Uefa Conference league while the big game between Liverpool and Madrid will also come up later in this month.
