Last night at Old Trafford was fantastic, I didn't believe Manchester United could put up so much show in a single match and I would say their performance against Brentford was something we haven't seen from the team in a long time.
The highest I was expecting from the encounter was a tie because the English giant hasn't been impressive in recent times, United went from their high to low and this season could end up having a huge dent in the club history. They lost crucial games and United form made the top four less competitive because it is very unusual to see the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, and others humiliate them in the Premier League. United gave out cheap points to those teams but last night's performance showed that there is still some fire left in the team.
Few changes in the team gave them a draw against Chelsea and yesterday we saw a better Manchester United squad, they didn't just win but didn't concede as well which is something they haven't done in their last 9 matches.
Last night's performance gave a different result, the midfield created a balance in attack and defense. One man seems to have been the missing recipe in the Manchester United squad and he is no other person than Juan Mata. The ex Chelsea midfielder is one of the best EPL players when he joined United but he became a bench player under the reign of Manchester United coaches unknowing to them that his experience could be of great help to the club's midfield problem so far.
Last night was the first time he started a Premier League match this season and look at how much he influenced the game. Having the best strikers and defense without controlling the midfield might render the team's ability useless because the midfield plays a significant role in every team's success, Juan Mata proved it last night that he was what Manchester United need to change their games.
He didn't get a goal in the encounter but his dominance in the midfield alongside Matic gave every other player to perform their duties efficiently. We can't celebrate the win without commending Cristiano Ronaldo for his relentless effort in ensuring that the team gets goals in every match, he is a leader that leads by example, and with 18 goals this season in the Premier League, you will agree with me that he has really supported the club despite having a terrible performance this season.
I am certain Brentford would be shocked at Manchester United's performance because they were certainly not expecting what they experienced, at a point United had 74% of the ball possession. The visitors are known to be good with the fast game but United were up to the task, they were able to hold them off even with those Eriksen dangerous crosses.
Bruno Fernandez got the opening goal for United, the Portuguese haven't been in great shape which is one of United's setbacks this season. Cristiano Ronaldo got the second from the spot-kick after his goal was ruled offside earlier and Verane getting the third showed how comfortable the team was.
The top four race might be late but United have a good chance of playing in the Europa which is not bad and the most important thing is seeing the team recovering gradually, wishing them the best of luck in the coming season.
