Hello! I'm Evelyn Troutman, the Lebanon County Dairy Princess. I'm pictured here with my great-great aunt, Julia. She's 95 years old and amazing in every way! 💞
Julia grew up on the same farm where I live as the fourth generation of our family. I'm the seventh generation. Julia helped her parents milk cows on our farm just like I do. And she's a lifelong milk drinker! You can find her having a glass of milk for lunch and supper.
Not only is Julia strong for being 95 but she's also smart!
As people get older they worry about their brain being damaged from aging and age-related diseases. A very effective solution to this may be sitting on a shelf in the refrigerated section of the grocery store!
Decades worth of studies showed that older adults who drink three cups of dairy milk a day can greatly increase their brain’s level of glutathione (GSH), a powerful antioxidant that helps protect the brain from the harmful effects of aging.
The GSH molecule is made of three amino acids—glycine, glutamate, and cysteine—and milk is a source of all three. Compared with other foods, the whey protein in milk has particularly high levels of cysteine, which is especially important for the body to make more GSH. Milk is also rich in riboflavin and calcium, which are required for GSH maintenance.
As you age, milk is important for your brain health, your bone health, your muscle health, your immunity, and so much more! Julia will tell you that drinking milk as part of a healthy diet is one part of aging as good as she is! 🥛
