Greetings to all my friends!
A long time ago, I listened to a program on the radio about alcoholism and alcoholics. In Russia and in Europe, they recognize alcoholism as a disease. Doctors try to help people who drink, but it's up to them to stop drinking alcohol or not.
It is very difficult. It takes a lot of willpower to admit that you are sick and to ask for help. Be it Alcoholics Anonymous, a doctor who treats alcoholism, or quitting drinking on your own.
I had a neighbor in Russia. Decent looking family. A young couple of 40 years old husband and wife. And two children. One guy graduated from high school and the other is a first grader. My apartment was new. I was rarely there, so I was completely unaware that my neighbor was a heavy drinker. He had his own lucrative car repair business with his associates. He was the director, so the colleagues turned a blind eye to his binge drinking. And they were very frequent. His wife would leave the house with the children to her mother for those 10 days. And then during one of my visits we were sitting in my apartment, drinking tea, and she told me that her husband was an alcoholic.
On my summer visit last year, after another binge, he went to work, but he wasn't feeling well. They took him to hospital, didn't even have time to put a drip - the man died...
He left his young wife with two little children who need a father. It is good that it well provided them for, that they live in a new two-room apartment, they have a car. But the man is gone! Because of his voluntary drinking, the man voluntarily left the life very early, without seeing his children grow up, what they will be in their new life, what families they will have, their children. He will see none of that. Is it really better to drink than to live?
And yet I believe everything is at the mercy of the individual and his or her willpower. Only an alcoholic who drinks can get himself out of this state, he can do it with the help of close people - surely he can, if there is a strong desire and a WILL.
In Italy, I don't know about alcoholism as a big problem, and I don't see alcoholics in restaurants and bars. It's a different drinking culture here. People drink in good company, make conversation, eat a lot and don't get drunk and don't disturb other patrons. If there are alcoholics, they probably drink quietly at home and get on their nerves only to their loved ones. But honestly, I am sure that no Italian woman will not live with an alcoholic husband for the sake of children or anything else. Russian women can tolerate an alcoholic husband for a long time, all the while hoping that he will reform and quit drinking.
I read a statistic that the English drink the most in Europe. I once attended the Juventus Stadium in Turin and watched a soccer game between the national teams of Italy and England. The soccer fans from England horrified me. They were all drunk from beer, peeing right under themselves in the stands, throwing plastic cups of beer at the Italians. There was such a disgusting smell of beer, sweat, and urine from the stands where the English fans sat. We had to call the police to calm them down.
I did not write this post to condemn alcoholics, no. Thank God I don't have them in my circle. And for those who read it, suddenly they saw that the man can pull himself out of the pit by his own hair, and they should do it for the sake of their own children, because doctors - drug addicts say that in families where the father drinks, there are all conditions that his sons will drink. And in families where the mother drinks, the daughter may follow in her mother's footsteps. Think about your children, you handle your children!!!
I am waiting for your comments.
