FIFA warns Tunisia about participation in the World Cup

There are only three weeks left until the World Cup in Qatar. Now the last minute preparations are going on. At that time, Tunisia received a warning from FIFA. If there is evidence of government interference in the country's football federation, their participation in the global tournament could be threatened.

Recently, Tunisia's Minister of Youth and Sports, Kamel Deguiche, threatened to close some federal offices. Besides, some of his other comments in recent times have annoyed FIFA.

In view of all this, the world football's highest governing body sent a letter to the Tunisian Football Federation (TFF) warning this week. The letter reminded the federation of its obligation to act independently and avoid undue interference by third parties.


The news agency Reuters reported on Saturday that FIFA refused to comment on the matter even though they confirmed that the letter had been sent.

When contacted by Reuters, the TFF and the country's sports ministry did not immediately respond.


Tunisia will play the sixth World Cup in its history. Their three opponents in 'D' group are world champions France, Australia and Denmark.

Tunisia will face Denmark on November 22 in the first match in the group.
