Negotiations are ongoing, Argentina may come in June

A 'green signal' has been received from Argentina. Discussions, however, are still at an early stage. However, there is a possibility that the world champion Argentina team will visit Bangladesh.


Bangladesh Football Federation (BAFFE) wants to bring Argentina to Dhaka next June. Earlier they brought the team to Dhaka in 2011. Messi played a friendly match against Nigeria at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Sebar.

Argentina beat France in a tiebreaker in the final of the World Cup in Qatar, breaking a 36-year drought to win the World Cup.

Argentina is currently in talks with Bafuf who is interested in bringing Messi-Martinez back to Dhaka. Abu Naeem Sohag, general secretary of the organization, told bdnews24.com that BAFF is not thinking about the other team for the friendly match.


“We have received positive signals from Argentina. They are flexible. But there are many other things and terms and conditions, they will come when they are right.”

“So far as the talks have progressed, there is a good chance they will come. There is a press conference tomorrow (Wednesday), where the Buff President will give details.”

The renovation work at Bangabandhu Stadium has been going on for a long time. Buffouf's focus for now is on getting the stadium fully fit for use before June and convincing Argentina.

"We are not thinking about the other team in the friendly yet. Argentina are the world champions and our idea is to lock the champions first. Their opponents will be decided later. Besides, discussions are going on to prepare Bangabandhu Stadium.”
