FIFA has canceled Belgium's away jersey

After the warm-up jersey, this time FIFA did not approve Belgium's away jersey. World football's highest governing body said no to their away jerseys because of the word 'love' on the collar.

A spokesman for Belgium said on Monday that their away jerseys had been canceled by FIFA.

The jersey design features a rainbow-colored trim, inspired by the fireworks of the country's popular music festival 'Tomorrowland', while also symbolizing diversity, equality and unity.


Belgian spokesman Stephane von Loeck said the ban was not because of the jersey's color (which is generally a show of solidarity with the gay, bisexual and transgender community), but because of commercial links with Tomorrowland.

Von Loeck also said that FIFA rejected Belgium's warm-up jersey because of the reference to Tomorrowland.

FIFA will allow Belgium to play in away jerseys if the word 'Love' is covered with tape. However, Von Luke said that they will play the first three matches in the original red jersey.


Their away jersey design was revamped and unveiled in September. Since then the team has played several UEFA Nations League matches in this jersey.

Earlier, the captains of 7 European countries decided to wear multi-colored 'OneLove' armbands in solidarity with the gay, bisexual and transgender community. But FIFA says that the player will be punished if he wears this band. Later the parties changed that decision.
