At times over the once two decades, some Arsenal players have felt they've had to leave in order to find bigger and better success away.
Using data from transfermarkt, we ’ve looked at the 10 most precious deals Arsenal have made in the Premier League period and how those players fared after leaving.
Samir Nasri,£24.8 million
This bone is still a tough bone for Arsenal suckers to take.
Nasri left for Manchester City after three seasons in North London, scoring 15 pretensions in all competitions in his final Arsenal crusade in 2010- 11.
Emmanuel Adebayor,£26.1 million
There's an argument to suggest THAT festivity is the topmost ever. It presumably is.
But there was further than just Adebayor’s huge capacity for shithousery that caused City to spend so important plutocrat on him in the summer of 2009.
He'd scored 46 pretensions in his final two seasons at Arsenal and made a dream start to his City career, netting in all of his first four league games for the club.
The striker finished the 2009- 10 crusade with 14 pretensions but the appearance of Roberto Mancini saw him fall down the pecking order, and he was lent out to Real Madrid and Spurs
Marc Overmars,£26.4 million
Have you forgotten just how good Overmars was?
Technically brilliant and as quick as a flash, the winger wowed Highbury for three seasons and was a vital part of the club’s success in the late 90s.
Barcelona also came calling with an offer that was simply too good for him to turn down, and he came the most precious Dutch player in history when he switched to the Nou Camp in 2000.
But his time in Catalonia was marred by a race of injuries and Overmars was noway suitable to regain his brilliant Arsenal form.
Joe Willock,£26.5 million
The most recent player on this list, Willock scored just one Premier League thing for the Gunners but scored eight pretensions in 14 appearances on loan at Newcastle in 2021.
That emotional form saw Newcastle director Steve Bruce supplicate Mike Ashley to make the move endless and they agreed to pay Arsenal’s asking price.
Since also he’s only scored doubly, but Bruce has been sacked and Ashley eventually vended. So yeah.
Alex Iwobi,£27.3 million
Iwobi came through the Arsenal academe and was lauded as a unborn star after scoring doubly in his first two Premier League starts but was inconsistent from also on.
In the summer of 2019, Everton showed interest and Arsenal let him go for a big- plutocrat deal after subscribing Nicolas Pepe in an indeed bigger deal.
Comments
Sometimes the less powerful clubs need to make sales, not because these players are not playing well, on the contrary, but to cover management deficits in squads that cost a lot of money.
These departures become necessary, even if they then affect the structure of the team, which takes several seasons to recover and return to a high level of competitiveness.
This is what is happening, for example, at the European level to Atletico Madrid, which sells its best player every year.
Or in South America, River Plate sold not one but two players this year: Alvarez to Manchester City and Fernandez to Benfica. As a result, they were quickly eliminated from the Copa Libertadores and were unable to fight for the lead in the local championship.
