বাংলায়
একটা গল্প দিয়ে শুরু করা যাক। গল্পের সঠিক উৎসের কথা বলতে পারছি না তবে কোনো এক বন্ধুর কাছ থেকে শোনা। বিল গেটস তার তুরস্কের একটি নতুন প্রকল্পের জন্য কিছু লোক নিয়োগ করবেন। তো তিনি সারা বিশ্ব থেকে সিভি আহ্বান করলেন। দুইটি বিশেষ যোগ্যতার কথা তিনি সেখানে বলে দিয়েছিলেন আর তা হল জাভা প্রোগ্রামিং এবং তুর্কি ভাষায় দক্ষতা। তো দেখা গেল সারা বিশ্ব থেকে হাজারেরও বেশি মানুষ এখানে আবেদন করেছে।
অনেকগুলো আবেদন থেকে কিভাবে তিনি লোক নির্বাচন করবেন চিন্তায় পড়ে গেলেন। তাই তিনি সবাইকে একটি কক্ষে একসাথে ডাকলেন। সবার উদ্দেশ্যে বললেন, যাদের অন্তত দুটি প্রোগ্রামিং ভাষা জানা আছে তাদেরকে আমরা নির্বাচন করব বাকিরা এই কক্ষ থেকে বের হয়ে যেতে পারেন। বাংলাদেশের মিস্টার চতুর সাহেব সেসময় ওই কক্ষ ত্যাগ করেননি কারণ তিনি মনে মনে ভেবেছিলেন আগে একবার চাকরিটা হোক তারপর দুই মাস ট্রেনিং করে দুটি প্রোগ্রামিং ভাষা শিখে নিব। এ আর এমন কি। তো কিছু লোক কক্ষ ত্যাগ করল কিন্তু চতুর সাহেব কক্ষেই রয়ে গেলেন।
বিল গেটস এবার বললেন আমাদের এই প্রকল্পের কাজ হবে ওয়েব ডেভলপমেন্ট সংক্রান্ত তাই যারা ওয়েব ডেভলপমেন্ট পারেন না তারাও এই কক্ষ ত্যাগ করতে পারেন। অনেকেই কক্ষ ত্যাগ করল কিন্তু চতুর সাহেব ভাবলেন ওয়েব ডিজাইন! এ আর এমন কি! এক মাস কোর্স করে শিখে নিব, আগে চাকরিটা হোক। বিল গেটস বললেন, আপনারা যারা মাইক্রোসফট অফিসে পারদর্শী কেবলমাত্র তারাই বিবেচনাযোগ্য, বাকিরা চলে যেতে পারেন। তো চতুর সাহেব বরাবরের মত এই ভেবে রয়ে গেলেন যে, মাইক্রোসফট অফিস! এ আর এমন কি! এক সপ্তাহ ইঊটিউব দেখেই শিখে নিব, আগে চাকরিটা হোক।
এভাবে করে বিল গেটস একের পর এক শর্তারোপ করে বাছাই করছেন। আর চতুর সাহেব কক্ষেই রয়ে যাচ্ছেন। শেষমেশ কক্ষে কিছুমাত্র লোক অবশিষ্ট রইল। বিল গেটস এবার শেষ দক্ষতা হিসেবে বললেন, আপনারা যারা অনর্গল তুর্কি ভাষা বলতে ও লিখতে পারেন তারা আমাদের এই প্রকল্পের জন্য উপযুক্ত। বাকিরা চলে যেতে পারেন। তো দুইজন ছাড়া বাকি সবাই চলে গেলেন। আর বিল গেটস খুব খুশি হলেন কারন তিনি কাঙ্খিত দুইজন পেয়ে গেছেন, যেখান থেকে একজন নির্বাচন করা সহজ হবে। এবার তিনি দুজনকে তুর্কি ভাষায় নিজেদের মধ্যে কথা বলতে বললেন। চতুর সাহেব অপর লোকটিকে বাংলায় বললেন, ভাই ভাল আছেন? উনিও বাংলায় উত্তর দিলেন, জি, ভাল। আপনি ভাল আছেন তো?
এই গল্পটি বলার উদ্দেশ্য বাঙালি কিংবা বাংলাদেশিদের ছোট করা নয়। বরং এই প্রবণতা নিয়ে কিছু কথা বলার জন্য যা বর্তমান সময়ে আমাদের সমাজে দেখা যায়। প্রযুক্তির উৎকর্ষতার সাথে সাথে আমরা আমাদের কাজকে সহজ করতে পারছি। যেমন আমরা চাইলেই ঘরে বসে মুহূর্তে বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন বিষয়ের তথ্য সংগ্রহ করতে পারি। অর্থাৎ জ্ঞানের যে পরিধি যেমন শিক্ষক, বই পুস্তক, টিউটরিয়াল, ডেমন্সট্রেশন সেগুলো প্রযুক্তির কল্যাণে আমাদের হাতের নাগালে। আমরা চাইলে মুহূর্তেই যেকোনো টপিকের উপর গবেষণা ভিত্তিক পড়াশোনা করতে পারছি।
কিন্তু যখন মানুষের কাছে বই পুস্তক এত সহজলভ্য ছিল না, তখন তারা যে জ্ঞান অর্জন করেছেন আমরা কি তাদের ধারেকাছেও জ্ঞান অর্জন করতে পারছি? প্রশ্ন থেকে যায়। হ্যা কিছু কিছু ব্যাপারে আমরা মোবাইল ফোনটা হাতে নিয়েই কিংবা কম্পিউটারের এক ক্লিকেই উত্তর বের করে ফেলতে পারি। কিন্তু কিছু জ্ঞান আছে যা চর্চা করে অন্তরে ধারণ করতে হয়। সেই সব জ্ঞান অর্জনের ক্ষেত্রে আমরা প্রযুক্তির উৎকর্ষতার পরেও কতটা অগ্রসর হতে পারছি, খুবই ভাববার বিষয়। আমাদের কোন একজন অধ্যক্ষ মহোদয় বলেছিলেন, তিনি বিএসসি ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং প্রোগ্রামে ভর্তি হওয়ার পর লাইব্রেরীতে গিয়ে পুরো সিলেবাসটি হাতে লিখে নিয়ে এসেছিলেন কারন তখন ফটোকপিয়ার এত জনপ্রিয় ছিলনা। আর এখন আমাদের হাতে শুধু নিজেদের নয় আশেপাশের বিভিন্ন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সিলেবাস মুহূর্তে চলে আসতে পারে। কিন্তু কতজন ছাত্র সেই সিলেবাসকে উল্টিয়ে দেখে, এটাই চিন্তার বিষয়। যারা এই লিখাটি পড়ছেন, তারা নিজেকে প্রশ্ন করে দেখি, কতটি বইয়ের পিডিএফ আমরা পড়েছি। অনেক বই আছে সংগ্রহশালায়। কিন্তু কয়টি পড়েছি, সত্যিই ভাববার বিষয়।
এবার আসা যাক, গল্পের ব্যাপারে। আমাদের অনেক শিক্ষার্থীকেই দেখা যায় ক্লাসে অমনোযোগী থাকে। ক্লাসের পড়া গুলো জমাতে থাকে। এবং ক্লাস লেকচার এর শিট, ভিডিও কিংবা যারা নিয়মিত ক্লাস করে তাদের ক্লাস নোট এর ফটোকপি চায়। অর্থাৎ ক্লাসের পুরোটা সময় জুড়ে মনোযোগ দেবে না, কিন্তু শেষে গিয়ে সবকিছু আয়ত্ত করে ফেলবে। বিষয়টা এমন যে, ক্লাস লেকচার সহ অনেক অনলাইন সোর্স হাতের কাছে আছে, ২/৩ দিন সময় নিয়ে শিখে নিবে। এ আর এমন কি!! সেই চতুর সাহেবের মত। পরে শিখে নিব। সবই ত অনলাইনে আছে। তাদের জ্ঞাতার্থে বলছি, যেই ক্লাস ৪৫ কন্টাক্ট আওয়ারে শেষ করা হয় সে ক্লাশ দুইদিন পড়াশুনা করে হাতড়ানো ছাড়া আর কিছু করা করা যায় না। এজন্যই পরীক্ষা আমাদের জন্য অনেক চাপের মনে হয়। আসলে এমনটি হওয়ার কথা ছিল না। ৪৫ দিনে একটু একটু করে আমরা যে খাবার খাই, তা একসাথে অনেক খাবার এবং দুইদিনে সাবার করা অযৌক্তিক।
আমার কাছে সবচেয়ে বেশি কষ্ট লাগে তখনই যখন দেখি, একজন ছাত্র তার ছাত্রজীবনে ছাত্র হিসেবে তাঁর যে কাজ সেটার ধারে কাছেও নেই। ছাত্রজীবনের মূল কাজ হচ্ছে ক্লাস করা এবং ক্লাশ শেষে ও শুরুতে ক্লাশ লেকচারগুলোকে বইয়ের সাথে মিলেয়ে নিজের মত এনালাইসিস করে পড়াশোনা করা তা সে যে পর্যায়ে পড়াশুনা করুক না কেন। কিন্তু আমার মনে হয় না, আমাদের বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় পর্যায়ে ৫ % শিক্ষার্থীও এই কাজটি করছে। কেন এমন হচ্ছে? খুবই ভাববার বিষয়। তবে কি সব পড়াশুনা বৃথা? তবে কি ক্লাশ হাজিরা নম্বর, ক্লাশ লেকচার শিট ও পরীক্ষার আগে পড়াশুনা করে পাশ করার জন্যই সবকিছু!!!

Let’s start with a story. I can't say the exact source of the story but I heard it from a friend. Bill Gates will hire some people for his new project in Turkey. So he called CVs from all over the world. He mentioned two special skills, Java programming and Turkish language skills. So it was seen that more than a thousand people from all over the world have applied here.
Out of so many appeals he fell into the thought of how to select people. So he called everyone together in one room. For all intents and purposes, we will select those who know at least two programming languages, the rest can leave this room. Mr. Chatur Saheb of Bangladesh did not leave that room at that time because he thought in his mind that once the job is done then after two months of training I will learn two programming languages. What's more. So some people left the room but the clever gentleman stayed in the room.
Bill Gates said that the work of this project will be related to web development, so those who cannot do web development can also leave this room. Many left the room but the clever gentleman thought web design! What's more! I will learn by doing a month course, let the job be done first. Bill Gates said that only those of you who are proficient in Microsoft Office are considered, the rest can leave. So the clever gentleman, as always, kept thinking that Microsoft Office! What's more! I will learn by watching YouTube for a week, let the job be done first.
In this way, Bill Gates is choosing one condition after another. And the clever gentleman is staying in the room. At last only a few people remained in the room. Bill Gates said as a last resort, those of you who can speak and write Turkish fluently are suitable for our project. The rest can leave. So everyone except two left. And Bill Gates is very happy because he has got the desired two, from which it will be easy to choose one. This time he asked the two of them to speak to each other in Turkish. The clever man said to the other man in Bengali, brother, how are you? Uni also replied in Bengali, yes, good. Are you alright
The purpose of telling this story is not to belittle Bengalis or Bangladeshis. Rather to talk about some of the trends that are seen in our society at the present time. With the advancement of technology we are able to make our work easier. For example, if we want, we can sit at home and collect information about different things in the world at the moment. In other words, the scope of knowledge such as teachers, books, tutorials, demonstrations are within our reach for the benefit of technology. We can do research based studies on any topic right now if we want.
But when books were not so readily available to people, are we able to acquire the knowledge that they have acquired? The question remains. Yes, in some cases we can find out the answer with the mobile phone in hand or with a single click of the computer. But there is some knowledge that needs to be practiced. It is a matter of great concern how far we have come in advancing technology. One of our principals said that he went to the library after enrolling in the BSc Engineering program and brought the entire syllabus by hand because photocopiers were not so popular then. And now we have the syllabus of different universities in the vicinity, not just ourselves. But how many students look at that syllabus upside down is a matter of concern. Those who are reading this article ask themselves, how many PDF books have we read? There are many books in the museum. But how many I have read is really something to think about.
Let's come to the story. Many of our students are seen to be inattentive in class. Class readings are stored. And they want sheets, videos of class lectures or photocopies of class notes of those who take regular classes. In other words, he will not pay attention to the whole time of the class, but at the end he will master everything. The thing is, there are many online sources at hand, including class lectures, you will learn in 2/3 days. What else !! Like that clever gentleman. I will learn later. Everything is online. For their information, the class that is completed in 45 contact hours, the class can be done for two days and nothing else can be done. This is why testing seems to be a lot of stress for us. In fact, this was not supposed to happen. The food we eat little by little in 45 days is a lot of food at once and it is unreasonable to eat in two days.
What bothers me the most is when I see that a student is not even close to the job that he has as a student in his student life. The main task of a student's life is to take classes and to analyze the class lectures at the end and at the beginning of the class by combining them with the book in his own way, no matter what stage he is studying. But I don't think 5% of our university students are doing this. Why is this happening? Very thought provoking. But all studies are in vain? But what is the class attendance number, class lecture sheet and everything to study and pass before the exam !!!
