A set of jewelry with the effect of dichroic glass

I want to present to your attention a set of jewelry, in which the main accent is a cabochon with imitation of dichroic glass.

> Dichroic glass is a development of NASA. It is used in satellite optics and astronaut spacesuits. This glass contains multiple microlayers of metal oxides, due to which it acquires dichroic optical properties.
In the manufacture of dichroic glass no paints, dyes or any other kind of dye are used to impart color to it, but sometimes colored glass pieces are used. The coating itself does not have its own specific color, but it reflects light in the same form as the prism makes a rainbow.

Although initially this glass was used only in astronautics, it is now used in the manufacture of jewelry and bijoux. Such decorations look fascinating, and they are very expensive.

I want to show you how you can achieve a similar effect, but with minimal cost.

For work you will need:

* potal (the thinnest golden foil, which can be purchased at a store that sells manicure accessories)
* glass cabochons
* pasta machine or rolling pin for rolling plastic
* office knife or blade
* stacks, dots (you can use toothpicks instead)
* accessories - bases for rings, earrings for earrings, bases for brooches
* polymer clay
* work surface (glass or sheet of paper, tile)
* wet wipes to wipe hands and scavenge while working

I had a small piece of rainbow sweat, which is dominated by a golden-orange color scheme.
I decided to make a background-substrate chocolate color. For this mixed red polymer clay with dark brown.

Shuffled clay until it turned out like this:

Clay rolled into the reservoir at the maximum thickness of the pasta machine.

Now a very crucial stage. Begin to spread potal on the rolled bed. You can use tweezers to get it out of the bag and gently place it on the clay.

Now gently press the potal to keep it on the clay. This should be done very carefully - the potal is very thin and breaks easily.  In the end, just ran a finger.

Now the layer with a tarpaulin is rolled on a pasta machine, gradually reducing the thickness.

It turns out a beautiful iridescent surface with cracking cracks. It is this effect that is needed to imitate dichroic glass.

Now I put glass cabochons-lenses in places where color transitions are clearly visible (this is how it will look more interesting in the finished product later).

Now you need to carefully cut the base on the cabochon contour.

There are many applications for such cabochons. Then you can make them into pendants, bracelets, earrings, necklaces, brooches, rings. You can make a decoration with one or more cabochons.
I wanted to make the decorations so that the main emphasis was on the cabochon itself, so I made minimalist frames made of polymer clay of the same color.
Golden-toned eye shadows are toned. When baking, they securely adhere to the polymer clay and do not need decorations in the subsequent fixing or varnishing.

I made two sets of round and oval cabochons, which consist of earrings and a ring, as well as a brooch and pendant with round cabochons.
