“LIVE A LIFE OF OBEDIENCE”

> ### And the Lord sent thee on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed. 19 Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the Lord, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the Lord? 20 And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the Lord, and have gone the way which the Lord sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites. 21 But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God in Gilgal. 22 And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. 23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king. (1 SAMUEL 15:18-23)  ### INTRODUCTION ###

The virtue of obedience is cardinal in determining the growth a Christian makes the journey of faith. Any claim to righteousness is directly proportional to the life of obedience, because obedience births righteousness.

> ### Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. (Romans 5:18-19) .  ### Greatness in God is accelerated by the ease with which obedience to God and His will is practiced. Little wonder, therefore, that it is those who are willing and obedient that eat the good of the land. > ### If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land (Isaiah 1:19).  NOTE TO TAKE: *** ### 1 Obedience in God’s view stands for complete obedience. Partial obedience to God regarded as no obedience or disobedience. > 1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession. 2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet. 3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. 5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. (Acts 5:1-5)  ### 2 Good things of life may remain elusive, and difficult to have by the person who is not straight and obedient in his ways. > 15 See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil; 16 In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it. 17 But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them; 18 I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it. (Deuteronomy 30:15-18.)  ### 3 This study on obedience comes as a direct command of Jesus, namely: disciples must be taught to “obey (observe) all things”. > Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you... (Matthew 28:20) > For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things. (2 Corinthians 2:9)  ###
