If you are in pain and suffering, will you take your own life? The morbid premise of the Emilia Clarke and Sam Chaflin film "Me Before You" was this query.
After being injured in a car accident, wealthy and successful executive Will Traynor developed quadriplegia. Two years later, a small-town girl named Louisa Clarke is hired as Will's new caregiver and shows up. Will was initially distant towards here, which made it difficult for the spirited Louisa at first. As they entered each other's worlds, friendship soon started to blossom. Will had lost his desire to live, and Louisa learned that he had actually made preparations to commit suicide in Switzerland.
Will was accompanied by Louisa on a number of adventures in an effort to revive his sense of adventure. Louisa's future success?
Life is valuable and deserves to be lived. Will you lose the will to live, though, if your quality of life deteriorates to the point where you suffer excruciating pain every day? To me, this is a very personal question, and we can only respond to it after giving it careful thought and soul-searching. I prayed to God that I wouldn't ever have to respond to such a question. Your life, however, ultimately rests in your hands.
I believe we can ask ourselves more significant questions at this time.
Are we content with the way our lives are developing? What can we do to get our lives back on course? When we set out to do things that are important to us, did we give it our all? How can we live our lives so that we have the fewest regrets possible in the end? What should we do if another opportunity presents itself, and did we make the most of the ones that were provided to us? Can we leave our comfort zone and pursue our dreams? These are the inquiries that, despite our circumstances, will enable us to live our lives to the fullest.
Our responses to the questions above will determine whether we can confidently say, "I lived to the fullest as I sat in my rocking chairs at the end of my life."
P.S. Will, the movie's main character, persisted in choosing suicide. Will's choice initially devastated Louisa, but she eventually learned to accept it. Louisa left her small hometown to pursue her own dreams, so while Will's life may have ended, hers had only just begun.
