Serey promotion of Khmer diasporas

D

Cambodia had suffered from a civil war from 1975 – 1979, and a subsequent famine throughout the whole nation that persisted when Vietnam chased away the Khmer Rouge regime. Many Khmer families lost their members. Some were killed during war and some died because of the famine. Many fled to refugee camps in neighboring countries and some moved to other countries like the USA, Australia, Canada, France, and the Netherlands. Family members were separated from one another. See for example this touching story of two Cambodian sisters who are now reunited after 47 years; both thinking that the other had died during the war: https://cambodianess.com/article/two-cambodian-sisters-are-reunited-after-47-years.

The first generation of Serey are slowly getting older, and some have died due to old age. We believe that it’s highly valuable to collect the stories of the Khmer refugees as much as possible, as a reminder of second and later generations to understand what their families went through. Therefore, we are starting a promotion for Khmer diasporas, in order to attract more Khmer people that live outside of Cambodia. Every Khmer person that lives abroad, registers on Serey, will receive 5,000 Serey coins. Your post will then be rewarded with additional Serey coins through upvotes from the Serey Admin.

1. Introduce yourself, mention your name, the country you live in, whether you are born in Cambodia or abroad.

2. Tell us something about your life. This can be about your work, relationships, talents, religion, beliefs, connection with Cambodia, anything…

3. Write within your post that it’s is for the promotion of Khmer diasporas.

4. The post has to be at least 400 words.

5. Use the tag Self > Khmer Diaspora.

The goal of this promotion is to share our experiences with other Khmer diasporas. It does not matter how old you are, you are welcome to join our Cambodian based social platform that is Serey. The promotion lasts for two months and ends on April 25th, 2020.

This is a very wonderful and important project! Everything that unites us makes us even stronger. Wars bring a lot of grief and separation. It is unfortunate that there have been such difficult events in Cambodia. I wish you peace, kindness and unity! It is very important to be together! I hope that your project of unification will gradually expand and become international. After all, wars have disconnected many people from different countries. Therefore, such a project is a very important step towards the smiles of happiness and love!
