What's going on with apple And why dose France keep calling them out for it?.
Let's take a look at what happened with a software update in 2017, some of you might even remember this. In 2017 apple released a software update that went to every iPhone but it didn't affect them all equally. Is this starting to sounds familiar?.
At that time, if you had a new iPhone the software update wouldn't have change much but if you had and older model, you might have notice something.
This software update slowed down older iphone models. As soon as owners updated, they notice that their phone ran slower, crash more often And generally didn't perform as well as they should.
Why would Apple purposely slow down older iPhones you make ask, well for some, the answer seemed obvio us.

This is a when a company tried to make their products wear down faster, so that user have to buy the NEWEST model or version,
And for many iPhone users in 2017 this seemed to be what was happening to the software update. Apparently that was what France thought as well, 2020 France competition and fraud board of France sued Apple over the update.
They said that apple was intentionally slowing down their phones to force users to buy the newest model. They even fined apple $ 27 million over it, but was that really what apple was doing ? or did they have a different plan in mind when they release the software update?, turns out that apple have a pretty good excuse.
They say that the reason some iPhone slow down with the update was because they designed it to save battery life instead of performance in other words they didn't want the old phones to spend too much precious battery trying to run new programs and software. So with the update they basically told old iPhones to preserve battery in favor of running quickly
Make sense right? well sort of, this excuse make sense when you think about how important a phone's battery life is, if you had to choose between a fast phone that die without warning and a slightly slower phone that you can rely on, Which will you choose? most users would probably choose the slower phone with a reliable battery, but their is till a problem with this explanation
Why did apple just tell the user that?
If apple had given the users a choice between battery and performance maybe costumer Wouldn't have felt so manipulate, and France wouldn't have find them Million of dollars. This lack of transparency by apple has been call out multiple times and just a few days ago France called out apple yet again. This time French app developers are suing iPhone for violating U.S antitrust laws
They said that apple had monopoly over app distribution and they've be abusing that power. These developers made another complaint that might sounds familiar that apple control's of the app distribution is stifling innovating and consumer choice. What's that about consumer choice? Isn't this the same lesson we learn back in 2017, maybe once again as a good reason for it's practices or maybe limiting choices is the gold
