Management summary
This research report concerns an investigation into the possible consequences of Dash Blockchain technology for the business model of Dutch ATM vendors. The reason for this assignment is the fact that Blockchain lectorate came to the conclusion that many Dutch ATM vendors hardly realize the consequences of Blockchain technology for their organization. This could stand in the way of the adoption of Blockchain technology, which means that they may not be able to respond in time to opportunities who are approaching from the market.
The central research question that will be answered in this report is:
What are the possible consequences of the Dash Blockchain technology for the business model of Dutch ATM vendors?
It can be concluded that Dash can offer lower transaction costs and higher transaction rates compared to traditional POS transactions. Another advantage for retailers is that Dash transactions are not reversal, this reduces their risk. Dash is still in its starting phase and the technology has not yet proven itself.
The research results have been divided into the nine parts of the Business Model Canvas.
This model has achieved the highest score on the assessment of various criteria about the context and execution of this research. With the answers given in the interviews with Dutch ATM vendors, the business model for the ist situation has been mapped out.
The Soll situation has been mapped through interviews with experts in Blockchain technology.
The impact is determined by a comparison between the ist and the soll situation. The degree of impact per building block is as follows:
Low impact
• Customer segments;
• Channels.
Reasonable impact
• Revenue Streams
A lot of impact
• Value propositions;
• Customer relationship;
• Key resources;
• Key activities;
• Cost structure;
• Key partners.
Within the building blocks on which much impact is expected, when Blockchian technology is he implemented, will cost the Dutch ATM vendors a lot of effort and / or money. It is expected that it will take about five years for payments with cryptocurrencies to be generally accepted. In about ten years this new way of paying will be used by the general public.
The recommendations are drawn from the conclusion and contribute to the goals of the Blockchain lectorate, which is to create greater awareness among Dutch ATM vendors. To inform the target group about the findings of this research, we recommend the Blockchain lectorate to provide the prepared whitepaper to the target group. This can place in a trade journal, or on an online platform. In addition, a follow-up survey of customer needs is recommended. Information about the consumer's view of payments with cryptocurrencies can contribute to the decision-making for retailers regarding the implementation of Blockchain technology. Furthermore, it is advisable to investigate the possibilities regarding organizing workshops in collaboration with Coinversable. Personal guidance can contribute to greater support among the target group. Finally, it is recommended to periodically monitor the developments surrounding cryptocurrencies and herby not just focus on Dash. At this moment it is not possible to make a statement about which cryptocurrencies in the future will be used by the general public.
